Bike Insurance

Apologize if this has already been discussed in another post.

I was reading article online today about insurance coverage for bicycles. The company is Merkel. https://markelinsuresfun.com/products/cycle

Anyone have any experience with bicycle insurance? May not need it with my present bikes but hope to be upgrading at some point in the future.

The devil is always in the details. It is my understanding that my bike is covered under my homeowners' insurance so would this be when I'm out on the road? And if so what is the deductible?

Article in the latest Bicycling (spare me, I don't subscribe, its for a service man in Afghanistan I send free magazines too every month) about some people that organized an insurance company specifically for bicyclist, along the lines of the automobile model. They stressed that uninsured motorist is probably the most important coverage for bicyclist. That and the liability would seem to be what I am most concerned about having. Theft seems to be why many cyclist want coverage.Fight now this is only available form them in the west coast states (some not all.)

Anybody from here looked into this service?

Bill

You'd probably have to get a quote... I imagine, just like car insurance, you would have choices on your amount of deductible, coverage, liability, etc... and the premium price would change accordingly.

Short of getting a quote from the company I don't have any more info then what I on the website. Pretty sure homeowners would not cover a bicycle away from home unless there was some kind of rider (insurance not human ) on the policy. Interesting concept especially considering the cost of a nice bike today.

I did an online quote for kicks with a $100 deductible (you can choose from a $100 - $500 deductible).
Bicycle Liability you can choose from $2500 - $10,000
Medical Payments: $1000 - $10,000
Vehicle Contact Protection: $10,000 - $25,000
Road Side Assistance: $10

My yearly price was $235/year
I have a Trek 1.1 so my bike isn't that expensive though (if that matters)
