Retirees and "Vacation"

Been off the bike for three weeks, bike in shop for one week for maintenance and then went to Disney World with the children and grandchildren for 10 days.

After returning from the Orlando trip this past weekend people have been asking how was the "vacation". I usually reply that retirees don't take vacations they just go somewhere for a time. Most of the retirees in the forum know what I am talking about, soon to be retirees will find out pretty quickly that they don't have to worry about running out of vacation anymore.

How do you other retirees answer the question of "how was the vacation"?

Anyway, got back on the bike Monday for a solo ride and did not want to get off. Even celebrated with pie about halfway through the ride.

It's vacation every day!

(that's the line I plan to use....)

Been retired almost seven years and take lots of trips. I still call them vacations and answer that question the same way I always did. They are still vacations from everyday life. But I do agree they are different -- no angst midway thru about the vacation coming to an end; no concern that I won't be able to take another vacation soon; no worry about work piling up; no worry about work at all. :)

I tell folks that the "trip" was great and we have been on vacation for 3+ years.
I also get the "have a nice weekend" line a lot. Weekend? I didn't realize the week ended. :) Although we quickly learned that we do our errands and running around during the week. Too many working folks out on the weekend.

Since a vacation is an extended period of recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling I just answer the question.

When asked, "How was your vacation?", I just tell them, "I don't know yet. I'm still on it."

When I was at work- I used to take the odd week off just to unwind and catch up on a few jobs round the house.

Since retiring I am thinking about getting a job just to get away from the multitude of jobs I have round the house and garden;)

I am so busy at home that I am going to need a break. It's a bit vague at present but taking the RV to France next year for a well earned rest. Problem is I have to completely outfit the RV as the insides have been gutted before they fell apart. So winter will be "Business as normal" except that instead of being a painter- decorator-Woodworker-Gardener----I will be back to being a mechanic.
