In the Midwest where the drought has been with us for so long, the fall colors are going to happen really quick. Yesterday evening, the tree behind our house was green, and this morning, it has turned entirely yellow (except for the red vine plant that covers it's trunk in red this past week).

Here are some shots I took yesterday while riding about randomly.

Fall is the "word" in my back yard today. Now, if the wind continues to blow the leaves in the pond I'm gold!

That pond looks perfect after a long hot ride in July.

OK, I'm getting more and more envious. Trees in my area are dropping leaves, yet most have just turned from green to brown. There seems to be a shortage of colorful foliage in my area this year.

Whee! I braved the cold temps and 15 mph winds today, to nab some pics of our fall colors before they're gone. I went 18 miles round trip, from the watershed trail to the goshen trail, all the way to the point where it intersects the nature trail and nickleplate trail!

Wasp, I think!

Even though it's late in the season and we've had some pretty cool nights, I chose to not poke it!!

Saw a few trees here locally returning from a ride Saturday just starting to turn. Some deep reds but none of the flamboyant yellows or oranges that look so beautiful in everyone's pictures. It will be about another 3-6 weeks on the Gulf coast before we get the small amount of changes we have here. Pine trees look the same all year.

+1, I was going to say that, we get them all the time here. Very bad juju to mess with these guys. My dad lost a survey crew member to hornets in the early 60's, nest got knocked into the bateau they were polling across a pond and stung him to death before he could react.

The color is mostly gone here in southern NH, but it was a perfect morning for a ride, sunny & cool. This was taken on a bridge that goes over a narrow section of a beaver pond - you can see the beaver lodge on the left.

+1, spent the last 12 Novembers in Orange Beach Alabama, not much color from pines and live oaks.
