Virtual ride with Cranky.

Just in case any of you are not following it--Cranky is retiring this year

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ts-left-Cranky

Now we have done it before for "Landmark" situations in members lives and I am suggesting we do the same for Cranky.

His last commute will be at 5.30pm on 31st October and to mark the occasion- I am suggesting that we do a "Virtual Ride" with him around this time and on this day. Luckily it will be at a sensible time for most of us but just in case it is not- Just doing a ride of around 5 miles- his usual commute- on this day will be enough.

I know it is not the same as 250 riders joining in to actually ride home with him but if we can get that Virtual ride in- it will have the same effect.

I'm in. I have written "virtual ride" into my calendar for the 31st. Great suggestion! PG

OK, I will add it. Cranky is in the US eastern time zone, right? I may make my ride virtual, since I don't like ride in rush hour. What about you Stapfam? Do you have good lights? 5:30 eastern time will be the dark of night for you. Maybe Cranky should send us his commute route in mapmyride and we can take a satellite ride with him.

Have lights and it will be subject to Weather. If it is going to be chucking it down I may make the ride in the day time and go for Pie at the same time. But we have a MUP local and I will be able to ride that if it comes to the worst.

Since the tricker-or-treaters, USA Halloween celebration, will be out going door to door at that time, I'll be dedicating my morning ride to Cranky.

I'm in, but will ride earlier since Wednsday is church night and also goblins will be cruising the neighborhood with sacks for handouts.

Halloween is getting in the way so perhaps we ought to ask Cranky to do an "Extra" Shift

And yes I have ducked and started running already.

And why not? I should be back in the saddle then (yet again...). We Crankys should stick together no matter what. Heat up the pumpkin pie. Cinnamon mulled cider anyone?

Bumping this thread to remind us that Cranky has a day to remember coming up and we should be celebrating it with him.

I'll stick this in my calendar. If weather permits, I'll commuticate my best wishes to COD on my bike. If weather is bad, I'll step out and hold an umbrella for him!

Given I am having one of those "light treatments" - requiring me to stay away from the sun, etc., - next week, my COD ride will likely be on my trainer in the basement. If I do that, it will be REAL dedication!!

Thanks for organizing this.

Cranky has done his last shift- I think- And all he has to do is turn up at work on the 31st and get his breakfast- say good bye to his Bosses and then go home so time to remind you of the date. The time and I don't think it will matter as Cranky will be trying to get out the factory gates as soon as possible.

So 31st of October and a 5 mile ride to celebrate the end of an era.

And Cranky- don't abuse the bosses till you are out of the gates and on your way home- They have cars and you won't.

Not to worry as that's not in my nature.

I did however leave my mark on one of the common-use computers there. The picture below is the desktop image they'll see when they log in......

They've officially been "Cranky'd"!

I'll be up for the virtual ride. My work schedule has been shifted back a day, (Thursday starts now instead of Wednesday) So I'll definitely be riding.
I'll dedicate the ride to Cranky from across the lake.

I don't foresee an issue unless all the roads have so much debris left from Sandy's wake that riding is not possible...but I'll be doing more than 5 miles so the additional miles could be proxy miles for those who can't ride that day.

I'm a bit confused, if COD is leaving his retirement celebration at work in the AM, shouldn't we be riding in the "AM" too??
