Dad was in the 1st Marine Division WWII, switched over to the Navy and retired as a Master Chief.

Older Brother is retired Army.

I joined right out of High School, 1969 and retired from the USAF.

This is always a special day for my family...

"A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America " for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it."

Certainly will. I'm sure he'll be fine. Keep him close on his return (I say this because the lovely son of good friends in Calif went down to survivors trauma..)

Bikes to share - my spouse is hard to catch on her on her Trek 7.5 fx - mine's supposed to be faster, but the evidence doesn't support the supposition, and I guess a matched pair of bikes might be a good thing if the goal is companionship

Respect to all soldiers today

It is Veteran's Day or for our English and Canadian brethren Remembrance Day NOW. Please pause to say a prayer of thanks for everyone that fought to preserve the freedoms we take for granted every day. Thanks to the veterans of all our allies.

Cplager, that line deserves to be quoted and printed out for posting, thanks. I have relatives that were Peace Corps, a very noble calling and service.

+1, a day of prayer and rememberance to all past and present.

SEMPER FI Bill and God bless all of our Armed Forces past and present

Concerning the thread title - it should be USMC - 237 years of tradition unimpeded by progress!

We, the few, the proud, have been doing so much, for so many, with so little, for so long, we can do anything with nothing! Semper fi, bruthas and BAMS!

I've worn it on deployments in Bosnia (1998), Iraq (2010), and Afghanistan(2011-2012). A hit everywhere.

Attached is from AFG. I'd have to dig through the Kodachrome to find Bosnia pics.

Congratulations to your son, you certainly have good reason to be proud of him. When you see him next he will be a self-assured, confident and squared away young man, not the boy that left you around 17 weeks ago. Tell him an old Wing wipe type Marine said Semper Fi and good luck in his service.

Schwinnhund, thanks for serving our country, you earned every bit of it in that dust up. Phu Bai caught some real crap in that period.
