Yesterday I Ate my first Hostess Cupcake Since Childhood

Actually, I don't know for sure if that was true. I may actually have eaten one in adulthood.
But since they are going out of business I thought I better have another. Too many things are changing too fast. One of the bad things about living long is seeing things that were familiar leave the scene. Not to minimize the loss of relatives and friends but somehow the departure of that little treat is really just too much.

No need to worry. You'll be able to buy Twinkies on ebay for 20 years after they quit making them -- perhaps longer.

No need to gobble them up... I've heard (but never confirmed) that you can unwrap them, put them out of the fridge a couple years and they will still look and taste the same...

But now Wonderbread --- that will be missed.

I grew listening to commercials telling me how it was better for me than the real stuff...

I had the same idea about Suzy-Q's used to love 'em, alas I decided against them, I'll just have to keep the memory and pass on the calories.

My wife went over to the Hostess store real close to the house today to pick up some Twinkies for a friend of ours. The line was at least an hour long and the parking lot was packed. There is something wrong with us.

Not a fan of Twinkies but I do like some of the other Hostess products. I know a lot of the high-and-mighty crowd blame Hostess for everyone being fat but my prediction (and you heard it here first) is that people will still be fat when Hostess closes up shop.

Not to worry. With over $2B in sales the current Hostess might be going out of business but someone will buy the brands and re-stuff the shelves eventually.

Of course they would move production offshore.
Which would be cheaper

Malaysian made twinkies?

Chinese made twinkies? (with a "fortune" message inside?)

Hostess is not going anywhere. This is a cost saving decision. They will be back in business before Christmas without missing a beat. They will have 18000 new employees though. Without benefits.

Just read in the paper that the owner of Pabst Brewing Company, Dean Metropoulos & Co., is considering an offer to buy out the brand name.

That should make an interesting combination and add a whole new dimension to a Twinkie!!

If you look carefully at the loopie-doos on the top of a cupcake and you will see the number 666 repeated over and over again, proving once and for all that Hostess is in league with the Devil. Rumor has it that the white stuff in the center is made out of... Aw, never mind.

No they're finished as a company. The brands will survive but not the company. Classic example of a company that should have been cleaned up by someone like Bain Capital 10 yrs ago. What a mess.

No more Twinkies? Now what will lumber mills do with their excess sawdust?

Me too. I had to put down orange cupcakes and vanilla Zingers recently as a part of eliminating sugar and refined carbs. In a way I feel lucky. By choosing not to have them while they were still available, I'm avoiding all this cheap media-induced instant-nostalgia for them.

And I've effortlessly dropped 8 lbs.

The end of Kodachrome was worth mourning. Twinkies? The product so nutritious eating it was used as defense for murder? Not so much.

It'sprobably impossible to link, but maybe you and millions of others seeking a healthier diet to lose weight and live longer are a cause for the demise of this product line.
