One goal for the year that I hadn't wanted to talk about out of fear of jinxing my no-hitter, I have passed 2-1/2 years without the 17th surgery coming my way, thankfully. This is the longest time without a surgery since 2000 when this all began. My thanks to everyone here at 50+ for supporting me in the ups and downs of the last couple of years and in seeing me through getting back to riding regularly and in managing the Renal Failure. You guys all rock.

Jan,
I asked the surgeon if he was through remodeling his house a few years ago, apparently he wasn't quite done yet. Someone asked me if I was paying for his Porsche, not likely, as he drives a Ford pick up that is about 7 years old so he can carry around his boys' baseball gear. I have met his wife and seen the yearly Christmas pictures of the three boys, they are his clones, and the whole family is fantastic. Very nice people and he has been supportive of me in every way. I knew he was the right guy when he gave me his home phone number and said to use it when I needed it.
I did ask for my medical degree through life experience credits and at a minimum a parking place close to the doors. I was instantly informed I would get the medical degree long before I got my own parking place anywhere near the building. I have apparently paid in enough that the third major expansion of the hospital is going on now, adding 4 more floors to the main building and wait for it, another parking garage, but no parking place. Rats!
You and all medical professionals are high on my admired list, Jan. I have had only two or three nurses or techs that i do not want to have around me and only 2 doctors that I won't ever use again. Out of the many people I see regularly that is a pretty good average.
Mikey,
Thanks much but the real heroes and people to admire are the members of 50+ that have encouraged me and supported me since i began posting here several years ago. Hang around hospitals for a while, especially the cancer wards/clinics, and you meet people that inspire you to keep going and never, ever, give up.

I'm currently about 250 miles past my goal of 5,000 miles for 2012. If all goes well, I'm hoping to make it to 5,500 for the year.

Goal: 8,000 mi. As of today's ride: 8,075. The rest is gravy.
The focus for next year will move from cycling miles to Triatlons. Plan to do 4 or 5 Sprints and at least one International distance. Learning to swim properly has been a real challenge.

Since I hit my goal of 50+ double centuries back in 2011 I didn't go into 2012 with any absolute goals; just to generally ride more and commute to work more.
As of today, my mileage is 8,219 and my feel of elevation climbing for the year is 541,936 (=102 miles).
I rode 17 centuries, of which 3 were doubles (but only counted for one century in my totals). Plus, I've ridden 254 days of the year 2012. Commute days to work: 102.
Would have been more except for a horrible crash on Nov. 6th, which pretty much wiped out Nov. and Dec. I only rode 5 days in Nov. and 4 in Dec. Oh well, gotta hope for a better year (without any crashes) in 2013!

I should hit 8200 miles for the year--actually already have. This is about 3500 miles more than my mileage in 2011.

For calendar 2012- 8500 miles, 900,000 feet of climbing.
Miles and climbing aren't my goals however; doing well (for me) in races is. I met most of those goals this year as well.

Finally made my 5000 mile goal this morning on my trainer. It was close. Also rode about .25 mph faster this year. I would not have died if I ended up with 4990 but it feels good to make the 5000 somehow.

7,206 miles for 2012, almost 1,400 miles in excess of my goal. This is my best year yet. My average speed, a topic which cannot be mentioned in the 41, was a little better than that of last year. Weather and work schedule were cooperative in 2012.

My goal, as always, was to return safely from every bicycle trip. This year was a success.

I fell short of my cycling goals. However, I also exceeded other personal goals. The best two things to happen this year was a vastly better career move and sending my daughter off to finish collage. Sometimes cycling takes a back seat to other things.

I hit 8,300, down from 8,450 last year. My goal was no accidents, I achieved that. In November my right
hip started giving me some pain so I cut back my daily ride, I have arthritis so in the interest of a pain free
life don't think I will do as many miles this year.

I did around 7,800 miles, and am happy with that, but am more pleased by improved performance ability: stronger, faster, and recover more quickly.

7490 miles in 2012, down a bit from the previous year, but not too bad considering I was mostly off the bike for the better part of April and May with abdominal surgery and subsequent complications. Time to kick it up a notch this year

Glad you are doing better now, Jim, those pesky surgeries sure get in the way of our riding.
