Missed a Chance for a Winter Ride Yesterday
Found myself, yesterday, in one of those funky November moods, with little incentive for anything and least of all, the wood I had to stack. Later in the day when I mustered up the incentive to walk over to the bakery and pick up a few goodies for myself and my wife I suddenly realized I had wasted a chance for a fine winter ride. As I exited the bakery
with my gratuitous calories, just passing by was a slim, darkly clad chap on a slim dark road bike, tail light blinking with easy technology...the spirit of youth, health and intelligence. Even at my age I knew I had made a mistake. Had I gone out earlier when the sun was shining and it was in the high forties, I too, could have enjoyed the slick, efficient music of my road bike, the increased circulation and sense of well-being, and, most of all, the belief that I had, to some extent, cheated winter.

I'm not getting longer rides during these colder months but I'm riding the bike more frequently around town for typical townie errands - groceries, post office and such. Yesterday's club ride was a mere 30 miles and weather was good and temps 50F.

Never pass up an opportunity for a good winter ride. Even a short ride--30 to 60 minutes--can make your day. Do your self a favor and get out there; you'll be glad you did and regret it if you don't. In my view, since you never know when health issues or unaviodable family obligations will prevent you from riding, you need to get out there every chance you can.

Hey OP, at least you put off the "funky November moods" until the second week of Dec. That ought to be a small victory. Now get out and ride....

Groan. Winter arrived with a vengeance over the weekend. Lots of snow and ice on the ground with temperatures yesterday in the single digits. Today it's up to the mid-20s, but I have no time to ride. So, with luck and dedication, my first true winter ride of the year will be tomorrow night.....if I don't wimp out.
The number of times I have meant to ride but skipped it are fairly numerous. The number of times I've gone out for a ride and then later regretted it are precious few.
