50+ shaving

Procrastinateur supreme
I lurch between modes - the wife isn't detail oriented enough to notice until one of the neighbors mentions I've grown them or shaved them off!. Lately the beard and mustache are veering towards gray, soon to be white I suppose. My daughter says I'd make a good Santa. Right now it's more Wild Bill Cody than Ho-Ho-Ho, though. Speaking of which, Merry Christmas to all. (For the secular, happy post-solstice. Whoopee the days are getting longer!)

I used to have a full beard, but as the silver has crept in, the beard slowly shrank until it's only a mustache.

I have a beard/mustache, have since the mid 80's but I shave all my contact points. Roadrash sucks. If I ever had it on my face I'd probably shave my beard off too!

I've gone through a few bearded personas in the Winter. My wife hates it and claims I look 10 years older, so I grow a beard less and less as time passes.

Continuous from age 21 for me, although I now keep it a bit shorter than in decades past. I do use Just For Men every few weeks since facial hair goes gray sooner than scalp hair, at least for me.

Had a full beard which I kept pretty short until it started going more grey than black about 10 years ago. I decided it made me look older and less tidy so have been clean shaven since. Personally, I just don't think a long grey beard and/or long hair generally looks that good on older guys, for example:

I deleted the attachment. For now. I will refer it to the mod conference room to make sure I made the right decision.

daughter said the beard and the glasses were a bit like a serial killer. She's young, she should know.

Wore a beard and mustache from mid-twenties (from full to goatee) until a few weeks ago, when I decided to shave off a few grams of wind resistance. JK. Actually just wanted to see what it did for my appearance. I was surprised when it was a significant improvement: I look quite a bit younger without the dappled gray whiskers. So now it's part of my new sleek look, which also includes tighter fitting clothing, as I have gradually replaced all the pre-cyclings clothes for the guy that weighed a lot more.

Daughter is dropping in here, in between working in a school in the Kigali slum in Nairobi. She doesn't generalise. She said I look like A serial killer. Britain's worst, possibly world's worst, a genially bespectacled bearded favourite doctor, who poisoned and wrote exonorating death certificates for 200+ victims.
She was specific and descriptive. Not general and assumptive.
I know I shouldn't feed..

That post was rather far back so I guess I didn't connect your post with Az's--about looking younger sans beard. You are right that unshaven can make you look younger. Maybe when I'm closer to my 70s I'll think about it. People still think I'm only in my early 40s though I'm mid 50s with a salt and pepper beard--guess I'm lucky--always looked significantly younger than my chronological age.
And my post with the video link was only two posts back from your post, not "rather far back".

I meant AZ's was a bit far back from yours, not yours from mine--didn't mean to be unclear. As for the video, maybe I didn't watch it all the way through or skipped through parts, I was thinking that it was a demonstration one looking better(not necessarily younger) without a beard, clean shaven. It's not that important...please don't feel I'm trying to debate one way or the other...please don't feel I'm arguing with your post or being negative in any way Dnvr. Didn't mean for my responses to come across that way if they did. Problems with text only--you can't hear the writer's voice or see any body or facial language.

I work in the entertainment biz with lots of younger hipster guys and they're all rocking beards these days. I give it a go for fun usually once or twice a year. But of course, theirs are soft and dark, while mine comes out grey and stiff. I've tried dying it too(grew a pretty darn long one last year), but what a pain in the arse, and the chemicals seem nasty. I think it adds at least 5 years to my appearance, but the bottom line is my whiskers are the texture of 12 gauge electrical wire, so, it never lasts long before I can't stand it any longer....

I went on terminal leave prior to my retirement from the Navy in 1990 and started my beard. It's been off my face once since that time. But I keep it trimmed rather closely to the face.
