    36 Years

It just occured to me that, since Mrs. Grouch and I took the Kett-train out for one short ride in December, we've now ridden tandem bicycles together for 36 consecutive years.

Since I broke my elbows I've lost that care-free feeling that I used to enjoy. Here's hopeing that I rediscover it with the Ketts during the upcoming year.

I think we're all hoping for you as well.
Have you posted any pictures of that rig?

That is quite a milestone for you both. You have come a long way from several months ago when you were hesitant to even ride. The blessings you have from riding will help you defeat those feelings. Thanks for your contributions here at 50+.

    Congrats to U-2!
We started riding 'in tandem' (a new Follis 10-speed) back in January of 1975.
    Now on tandem #5.

You didn't beat us by much getting started but you and Kay have way more tandem riding miles than we do. The Kettweisel train is number 6 for us: A much modified Schwinn Twinn that we rode for 7 years, 3 Santanas, a Rans Screamer and now the Ketts. When I think back on it the Schwinn was a pretty marginal bike but it was all that we could afford at the time and we took it on some pretty significant rides. It was definite a life-style changer for us so it was good.

I only got a Tandem in 2002 and it was bought for me. My wife saw me and my co-rider on it one day and said that there is no way she is ever getting on it and she never has. Mind you- she did not see it in the best situation. Out on a training ride and she met us at the end of the ride at Paradise drive. The last downhill on the South Downs Way and is a smooth grass track with only one gnarly bit on it. She had walked up the hill and saw us take the jump at about 45mph and she swore that we did not come down for about 50 ft.
How long was I in the army? Five foot seven.

    Retro G,

Congratulations, that is quite an accomplishment. Hopefully, you'll "get back on the horse", and back into the grove.

While my wife and I have ridden together for a significant number of years, we both agree our marriage would probably be measured in minutes if we were on a tandem together.

This is our vision of a tandem!

Maybe you shouldn't try. The joke among tandem riding groups is that whichever way your relationship is headed, a tandem will get you there quicker.

I like the bike, by the way.

Well, wedding anniversary number 58 next month for us . . .
As my stoker Kay likes to say " you're still on probation!"
We tried tandeming back in 1975 . . . and still at it at ages 80 and 77.
Try it, you may like it!
    Pedal n TWOgether!
