Hello again all, and a Happy New Year to each and every

I'm just sharing the changes spouse and I are going through. Please skip if you've had enough. Just summarising, because I've felt at home here.

8 years here. That's enought to build a pattern of friends and family.

Booked the movers for this time next week.

This morning, Daughter took her bedding, teddies, adolescent books and records and movies to the charity store, and then caught a flight back to UK.

This afternoon, I sold the car, the pickup truck, the sofas, the marital bed, the clothes except for 2 changes, the furniture inside, the garden furniture, my motorcycle kit, the tv, the stereo.

We are leaving with a bag and a carry-on each

BUT the tandem, the Specialized Sirrus, the Rocky Mouintain Solo 50ST and the Xootr Swift are going into store in UK. Trek FZ 7.5 is going to our best friend here.

Next - temporary crew Miami to Lima. Then, who knows. Bowlers, Blankets, Llamas. We're leaving lighter ( posessions wise, I've got more of a tum) than when we met in 1976

I am glad you decided against selling the bikes. I think I voted against it when you posted previously on the thought. Ours will be there when we get back in early February, and I am looking forward to renewing acquaintances with them all.

If you had sold the bikes you would have had to replace them and with what? Then you would have started swearing as there would be all those new tight bearings to run in- the saddles and bar height to get perfect and you would have been upset when all that newness finally got scratched.

How's Brighton coming on by the way-- Or is that still work in progress?

Tenants in our curent house in Kingston UK have been good for maintenance and nice people, and really want to stay there for years more. We'd need to sell that for any other place, Brighton or not - so, no imminent plans

Brighton appeals. So do East London industrial lofts. I'd prefer to bike in Sussex than Hoxton, however!

Glad you kept the bikes, rebuilding a stable would be pressure enough to drive me nuts... NVTS...nuts. Hope the move goes smoothly and things will be for the best.

Except when you have to settle in another place and start all over again getting something as simple as a bed.

I've downsized more than four or five times in the past 25 years as I have moved from one place (even continent) to another.

There is a fine balance between getting rid of stuff only to have to spend money to buy it all over again, putting it in storage, and/or transporting it between locations. The better the quality of the possessions, the more expensive they are to replace, the more difficult the decisions become.

I've regretted getting rid of stuff long after it has happened. I am a lot less aggressive about it these days.

Like you, I would keep, if possible, the bikes and other sporting goods. But simplifying life is good.
I moved alone from a house to a 300 sqft bachelor pad. She took everything other than my bike and sporting goods. I still get by in a 700 sqft apartment, but have accumulated another 2 bikes and lots of sporting goods.

At times I ask myself "Why do I have 6 canoe paddles, two tents, two campstoves, and so on?
