My 50th Birthday Present to myself

Not a bad birthday, except that now I'm an official member of this forum. Now if I could only get to ride it.

Nice present. Sure beats what I got for my last bday.

For my 50th, my wife took me to dinner at her favorite restaurant and then borrowed my credit card to pay the bill.

When I was 20, I bought the best bike I could afford, a $150 1971 American Eagle [Nishiki] Semi-Pro [Competition]. Most of the folks who could afford high-end bikes were either sponsored racers or 50-somethings.

The forecast for Saturday is mostly sunny and 40, and Sunday mostly sunny and 45. I should get a more than few miles in this weekend.

Who said I could afford it?

Great looking scooter . should be a lot of fun setting it up and riding it 'in', good luck with it.

I'd possibly be looking for a replacement for the Campag Vento's sometime down the track. I have them on my Orbea commuter, and while they are bullet proof, they're also a tad heavy.

Nice ride ! ! ! !

Now, it might be a few days after your birthday, but for another present to yourself (everyone pay attention) go out for a ride and ride your birthday in miles. I turned 50 last year and it worked out that I was actually able to go out on my birthday and do that. (I actually rode 53.)

If anyone is interested, I posted a "cycling-to-do-list" in the General Cycling forum. It a funny watching the face of the teller the first time I rode my bike through the bank drive thru.

hey let me jump in!
My gal and I are doing a week long tour this summer (50th year challenge!) and decided to treat ourselves to new rides (to replace my '71 Dawes Galaxy!)

It's a Felt F65 (altho the image is an F70... it is the same bike)

Felt has some interesting mid-year model things... now if the snow just would GO AWAY!
(i figured out the image thing!)

say how do I get the pic ot be bigger in the message??
Use the advanced button and click on the insert image button with the mountains at the top of the box. It will prompt you for the URL of your pictures. You need to have the pictures on a web server somewhere.

Im already looking for better wheels and I've only been out once on the bike. The reality though is that I already spent enough, and the wheels will have to wait. I can easily lose a pound on the wheels, and another 3/4 on the pedals, bringing the total weight to just under 17 pounds. The pedals are further up on the list of things to buy as the ones I'm using, old first gen Looks, are getting pretty worn out, and very heavy. I have a pair of Velomax Tempest wheels, but alas they are Shimano and I bought Campy.

It is an incredible ride just as it is.
