I find myself really enjoying the steel frame bike I've been riding. I've even toyed with the notion of taking off the brifters and going with downtube shifters.

Most definately. Nothing says "race me" in vintage terms than downtube shifters. Excuse me while I indulge....

You have the whole enchilada Ryp, Colnago graphics, Campagnolo friction DT shifters, Columbus steel tubing, lugged construction, square section tubular rims and tubbie tires, looks like a 36h spoking in 3-cross, maybe, man I am drooling all over my lap top now....

You might need to look at the scratched area above the shifters, looks like the paint is hiding some rust bubbles, possibly.

Thanx Bill, it's a sweety and one I could only have hoped for. That little paint chip with a rust spot in it was caused by the original owner/builder/racer letting the handlebars swing all the way around until the front brake (Campy) adjusting wheel hit and dug into the paint. Lots of places like that but the paint cleaned up nicely. Yes, 36h Fiamme on Normandy hubs laced in 3-cross. You have the eye of a vintage bike lover.

I suppose so, but I have the bank account of a BSO rider.

I can relate. What, 5,000$ for a new Colnago these days? I'm thankful to have lived long enough to find one in my price range.

Well, this is new to me. I've been away for so long I've forgotten how to post pictures. I've been on Strava and Twitter and Facebook and Instagram (thanks, adult kids, for that) for so long that I'm unused to the Old Ways.

I'll figure it out, eventually.

I always upload selected photos to photobucket and then paste the img link from PB into the BF post.
Message boards aren't cutting edge, are they?

Since it's a Pub thread, and nearly Christmas.....
What favorite Holiday drinks come out this time of year?

I'm trying to avoid the eggnog & rum - too many calories.
Anyone?
sippin whiskey warming by the fireplace?
out of the freezer, morning shot of aquavit?
Schnapps, anyone?

I dunno, but with all the holiday goodies (liquid or otherwise), I am losing the battle of the scale. It happens every flippin year. :(

Happy new year everybody.
Sitting here with my wife, sipping a little red wine, and babysitting my wife's 2 year old grandson so her daughter and daughter's husband and two grade schoolers can go out to a late movie.

Hopefully all your 2015 cycling memories are good, and may your 2016 cycling goals end up better than you hope for.

10-Jan-2016 edit: quiet at times in this thread, kind of like my bike training has been so far this year.

I want a different bike. (Notice I didn't say I needed a different bike.) One of my bikes is a built around a Dean titanium frame and its really a harsh ride. It comes from a "sportier" geometry than my old C-dale sports tourer which is my primary ride. I'm giving some serious thought to tearing the Dean apart and putting the components on a new frame built along the lines of the C-dale. Fortunate that I live not that far from the Waterford bike company. I'm thinking a trip to the factory would be a nice way to spend a day. Of course, I could just save the money and get a new roof put on the house but that would be way to sensible.

Wildwood-as I am a teetotaler, perhaps, House of Coffee stout?

Never heard anyone ever say their Ti was a harsher ride than Al Cannondale. What tires on each?
Spend 1/2 a day at Waterford and my guess it that the roof will have to wait a couple of months.
As for the name of this place - nobody stops by regularly so - it should be named "RemovemeasaStickycauseNobodyVisitsorCares"

How's my fit?
after a few beers trying to convert the dining room to a photo area
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=502068

edit: not sure if I need more set back or front center, probably a longer stem. And no the brakes don't need to work on the trainer.

re-edit: my next fitter told me this would be the desired position. Can't say I'm makin much progress tho'

Wildwood-I use the same tires inflated to the same pressures on both bikes. It really has more to do with geometry. The c-dale has a longer wheelbase and shallower angles. This makes for a pretty comfortable ride, particularly around here where the roads can get pretty rough. If I go with a Waterford or a Gunnar it will be built with the same type of geometry as the beloved C-dale.

My dining room is now where I keep the bikes. I sent the dining room table to the burn pile, added a bike tree and a drafting table which is great for working on jigsaw puzzles.

In the process of evaluating how best to get 3 moved to a long bedroom wall, wish it had 10'ceiling. Wife wants her dining room, I only get to mod it for short periods.

Do you shellac the puzzles and frame them?

rck 02-05-16 12:40 PM

No, I just leave them assembled for a few days. I then break them down and lend them out to other aficionados.

I do have 10' ceilings which is nice. I bought a bike "tree" from a LBS that was going out of business and it works very fine. It holds 4 bikes, albeit I've only 3. Perhaps, I should keep the Dean and buy 1 more for the sake of symmetry.:)

OK-last night when I walked downtown it was 50 and raining. Tonight we are scheduled to get 4-6" of snow. Go figure.

This gives the word "aero" a whole new meaning. These guys are crazy the speeds they go downhill. I happened to be taking a picture of the road and views of the valley behind me when I heard this strange noise. Turned around to see this guy careening down the road. when I got home I was amazed to see the cell phone photo.

You know, that looks like a lot of fun. If I was 20, no 30, O.K. maybe 40 years younger..
