I've got lots of bikes. This one is my SUV. It now has dynamo powered headlights and tail lights.

This 1962 Rudge Sports is one year younger than I am.

I have to get this one working properly so my wife and I can ride this in the summer. I acquired it a few months ago and haven't worked on it yet.

This 1974 Raleigh International frame will be my vintage Fixie.

This 1971 Raleigh Super Course is a great all around bike and lighter than the Bianchi above. Here it is with a trailer, which I use to pull cargo. Actually, you might see a passenger there. He is Booger the cat, RIP, at the vet's office.

Here is my pride and joy, a 1982 McLean racing bike that I've owned since about 1983. It's my weekend bike, though I have pulled the trailer with it.

I also have a Raleigh Twenty under renovations and some other bikes.

I am still a curmudgeon in training and just rebuilt my Peugeot AO8 with new fixed wheels which are lighter and have the same gearing as the previous coaster equipped wheelset... the bike just got much more fun to ride.

    Screw the variable gears...

For Tom... it runs a 70 gear inch drive that I can pedal with one leg if I have to.

    My Trek 500 Tri series.jpg

Finally got a pic of my one and only '86 Trek 500 Tri Series. Bought it off the showroom as a "last year's" model at a close out price. Original parts except for Matrix touring rims that I laced up to the original hubs running some pretty worn down Continental Super Sports. Also a Nitto stem and mountain bike seatpost because it's a centimeter or two short for me. She's just a plain Jane but no wallflower 'cause, as my only, she gets to dance a lot except for an 11 year hiatus until this year.

Everything I had before this one is long gone.

The distribution of types of bikes I saw at a recent organized ride (near the SF bay area), was totally different from the distribution seen in this thread. That is, it seemed that only about 3% of the bikes had the traditional steel or aluminum frames seen in this thread (like mine).

    Most were like this:

Is this the distribution of bike types in the 50+ forum, or is this thread being interpreted as "What older bikes do people ride?"

I have a number of bikes. I converted my old Rockhopper to a commuter and I have several I keep as loaners for friends.

    The bikes I ride:

Hello Kitty - called that as someone asked me if I bought it at WalMart. I saved 10 years for a LANDSHARK - builder John Slawta out of Oregon. Custom steel, custom build, custom wheels, custom paint. Notice the rear cassette - built for climbing!
    The Landshark L.jpg
    Landshark 22.jpg

I realize I need to remove the Bento Bag - it looks ugly on the bike!

The Superlight and Juliana. Bought the Superlight in 2006 and the Juliana in 2012 - frame only custom build. Love both bikes!
The Superlight Brand new with tags.jpg
    julie.jpg

I've changed a few things up on the Superlight added a red CK headset and red Sun Ringle wheels. Realized I don't have a current photo of the bike - need to get one. Have also upgraded brakes and components - all XT.

That Landshark is really cool. Do you have any closeups that show the paint details?

Well sadly you know I do... I was very proud of the paint job. I told the builder I wanted something to reflect my love of being outdoors - the blue sky, green plants and California's wild roses... this is what he came up with...

There is nothing sad about the pics of your Landshark, Pam. Yours was the first 'Shark I ever saw, in a post soon after I joined BF, it always intrigued me and John's story is great. I imagine he would laugh at the WalMart statement, he puts everything into his frames and the paint colourways/designs. I got to see one at a century last October, here, the lady was gracious and rightly proud of her bike, many of us were drooling while looking at it longingly and lovingly. Very nice bike.

You see Landsharks here and there - mostly in CA, OR and WA but I did see one while riding in Texas. All of them are interesting. John has gotten away from steel and is now really getting into carbon... can't afford one of those. It took me so long to save for the steel bike! Anyway its a dream bike... last road bike I will ever buy...

I've been wondering how Landshark gets along with Hello Kitty.

As for "last road bike I'll ever buy", I think that occasionally but when I get offered a cool frame for $10 I usually can't resist.

I have a garage full of cool frames (although that Centurion is a keeper). I guess I should never say never but I won't in the future go out looking for a new road bike; if something drops into my lap, well whole other thing!

This is my current ride: My bike was "resting" at a control point for a 200K Brevet in April of this year, near Santa Monica, TX. Before this road bike I had A Fuji SL-1 comp for about 12 months and gave it to my youngest son.

And WAY before that I had a blue 10 speed "volkscycle" in college during the 1970s. Gave the volkscycle bike to my oldest son when he was in college and it promptly was stolen, boo

In between 1970s and 2011 I did not do any cycling at all....but now it consumes all my spare time to say the least

I would love a Landshark but I'm afraid the current monetary situation doesn't allow that, fixing up the house since the kids are now out on their own and the economy here isn't back to near full steam. Construction is still thin and "money is pretty expensive" My next bike will be a C&V build, early 70's Bottecchia, Giro d'Italia hopefully, with a full NR group set. That will be done a piece at a time. Thankfully the CAAD 10 is running well and I get to ride, no matter what.

    Nice Spec Richard!
