Be careful what you wish for

As some of you know I was thinking of joining a bicycle club.At present I'm a solo rider. The closest club is an hour away by car.So I thought that was a tad too far.I recently bumped into a guy with a cool bike.He had a Trek ,red white and blue US Postal carbon fiber mint sparkling bike.I complemented him on the ride and we talked, well sort of.His english is no too good and my spanish is worse.Anyway he bought the frame on ebay and built the bike up himself ,I think.Next thing you know I have a riding partner.Turns out he lives nearby.I can't get a friend of mine to ride but here is a total stranger who is riding with me.Day one I take him on one of my 45 min rides,he said he hasn't been on a bike in years,I think.Day two he wants to ride for an hour,I think. So off we go on one of my 1 hr routes.Half way through he passes me and picks up the pace.I notice he is pulling away.I now have to get serious,I'm huffing and puffing to keep up with him.He slows up and says his back hurts ,I think(thank God).I let him know we are almost home,I think.Well I have my riding partner and my work is cut out for me.I'm sure stories will follow.

Soundsike you might need a "no drop" rule for your new "club".

A lot can be gained from riding companions who are somewhat faster than you. Hope you and your new riding partner can come to terms and that it works well for both of you.
