my grandson, age 13 doesn't bike much but last summer we went for a short ride with me on my road bike and him on my mtn bike. When he started to cruise at 20mph I knew I was getting old. He had to slow down to allow me to ride with him... I laughed.

It was a reality check. One more thing I can't do as well as in my twenties or thirties?
I used to love to hurt people on the bike whenever I could get away with it.

Now I hurt before I even get on the bike

OK, OK ... I'll fess this up. Riding home from work yesterday, I had a guy chasing after me on my road bike. Get this:
  • He was riding an MTB.
  • With knobbies.
  • Towing a Trail-a-Bike
  • With his ---oh --- 5 year old daughter on it.
  • Who was not pedaling ... she had her feet up.

And the sucker hung on for a good long time. Damn, he was strong!

Geezerdom ... it's not for everyone else anymore.

I love a good chase story! Good effort on the chase. I bet the adrenalin surge from seeing you on their tail is what gave them the strength to flee.

IYou go old guy! You could yell something like "HEY-I know your MOM and I'm telling!"

The way it was explained to me once was that second place was really "first loser," and it went downhill from there. At the time, I had been patting myself on the back for being, I guess, "second loser."
