The Naked (well almost) Rider Strikes Again

It was 80F today and once again, my friend, John, is on the trail wearing only what looks like a Speedo. He is about 4 years older than I - which would make him about 78yo, and rides vintage classic 10 speeds from about the 50's or so - which he builds/restores.

According to John, he rode in the TdF eons ago, or something like that. I do know that he can leave me behind in a flash, and he weighs about 110 lbs. His skin is all wrinkled and brown.

Several years ago he tangled with a horse and the horse won, and he ended up with a broken clavicle, and the horse and rider went on their merry way, never to be seen again. John healed OK.

So, more power to John. May he continue to ride with his Speedo for many years to come.

80 degrees? Bah! I saw an older guy this morning (6am) on my way to work, in shorts, shoes and a helmet having just come up the grade over Mission Trails. I cursed him as I checked the temp on my dashboard: 60 degrees. Bloody showoff!

I wonder if that has resulted in "leathery" skin and no need to ride with padded shorts.

John must be my mother's neighbor in Phoenix. He's the 'Mr Fixit' for the entire community. His name is John - and he's ancient - a German Army WWII survivor - and he's all of 110 pounds, brown, wrinkled and leathery. I've only rarely seen him wear a shirt - even at 50*F in a Phoenix 'winter'. I can only wish I had his stamina!

We had a naked cyclist in my neighborhood up until a few years ago. Rainbow is in his mid-fifties and just didn't like wearing clothes. After his back surgery, he went bent and also decided to wear clothes. He still sings as he rolls along and his house reeks of his large "medical farm". He does manage a respectable 15,000 miles per year, which is a lot of singing.

One of the great things about getting "a bit more mature" is that you really don't have to give a d**n about what other people think. You've got me seriously considering the speedo express for this weekend!
