My jersey vault

Too many Jerseys? Impossible! by ccorlew, on Flickr

Here's my story, and yes, I'm bragging, just a bit, and mostly about my daughter.

I have a weird room off our bedroom. When we bought the house it was unfinished, and has no ventilation, and an oddly slanted ceiling Who knows why they made it like this. But we put in insulation, lights and a window and some flooring. I was going to use it as an office, but I don't need an office and it filed with "stuff." Especially after I lost my dad and tossed in a lifetime of his photographic work.

My daughter came home between spring and summer semesters and, being the visual and organizing goddess she is, told me she'd make my mess a thing of beauty. And she did. I feel so self indulgent, but I don't care. I had a ball working with (or maybe for) her.

My wonderful wife snagged one of the kids rooms as her space, and the other kids rooms are now a guest room and and a something else room, so I get the unheated room to be my bike jersey vault.

I've been riding forever, so I have... a few.

Life is good.

I love it. And I thought that I had too many jerseys. Heck, mine wouldn't even fill 1/2 of a row. It looks great and kudos to your daughter. And, like bikes, I guess jerseys are n+1 also.

I really think some posing and modeling is in order.... by you of course, not your daughter. We need more fashion sense around here.

Nice. Jerseys on the left, bibs & shorts on the right?
What's in the bins in the middle?

Jerseys on the left top, jackets, heavy jerseys, vests below. Bibs (not a short in the bunch) on the right.
Baskets for socks, winter socks, base layers, camel back, assorted weird stuff.
Hanging shoe thing holds arm and knee warmers, head wear, and heart rate strap.

Erin should model, not me. When I Ebayd a bunch of stuff I had her wear it. I think I made a lot more. Everything sold. Me, not so great...

Here. Contrast and compare.

Your daughter is definitely cute but did all this exposure to bike gear turn her to riding?

Sweet. But, really... Why is the 50+ jersey (your own great design) on the bottom rack? And what did you do with all of your father's photo stuff?

It appears to be on the top rack, just right of center. If you look closely you can see the "us" from "plus" on the sleeve. The 50+ garment on the bottom appears to be the wind jacket, which is down with other jackets or long-sleeve items. Just my take on things; there seems to be some method in the organization.

And Curtis, you're lucky. I've got two sons but I seriously doubt they will be organizing my bike clothes.

He looks to have at least 2 short sleeve on the top rack and 1 wind jacket on the bottom rack, as best as I can tell. I'd want to believe there are more jerseys and some wind jackets/vests that I cannot pick out. My 2 ss jerseys, 1 ls jersey and wind jacket (all the 50+, not counting the myriad of everyday kit I have in there) all fit in my closet and my shorts are in the shorts/tights/socks drawer. I am not even close to the amount of kit Curtis has, I am more of a "What's on sale this week?" type. He has a seriously nice collection going there, very good organizing job by your daughter Curtis.

My what a big lens you have.
Yes, I am indeed well equipped.

...did all this exposure to bike gear turn her to riding?
Not as a "hobby," but she does bike commute regularly to SF State.

Why is the 50+ jersey (your own great design) on the bottom rack?
I think there is 50+ stuff on every rack. I have multiple jerseys, a vest, jackets and bibs!

what did you do with all of your father's photo stuff?
The cameras and lenses I use. A lot of framed prints are on the walls here, and a number went to other family members. The biggest "mess" is a the stack of a lot of slides. My long term plan is to edit, scan and make a book using blurb, then give copies to family members. Fortunately I was a photographer and photo editor professionally for 20 years and now teach photography and photoshop at Los Medanos College, it isn't a huge leap. It's just that there is so much stuff and it will take forever. The boxes are in the hall now, and unfortunately will be stacked in the middle of the floor in this otherwise tidy office. But it will be a neat stack that I can move around.

On a somewhat related note, I encourage everyone to make books of their photos. Vacations or fun stuff. They can be grand, or even small and cheap. You'll be amazed how much fun it is to have them laying about as reminders of things you've done. Look at this: https://www.blurb.com/my/book/detail/...nd-oregon-2010
You can flip through the pages.

OK that does it. I'm inspired to get a nicer third jersey. Tall orange and White.

You daughter is an enabler. What you need is an intervention. Or maybe a garage sale.

She's a saint. The office/bike vault is done and today we tackled the garage. Among things I wanted to keep I found a nice plastic storage box filled with carefully bagged software and manuals, all from about 1999. None of will run on any current os or computer. We tossed tons of stuff, but still found a way to make room for my 1969 hippie clothes.

We also discovered a box filled with my 1990 era baseball and football cards. I don't care about the at all, and plan to haul them to a card shop and see what i can get. If they pay for the gas I'll be happy.

When he is finished with your garage, send her to the airport, I'll have a ticket waiting so she can do ours next.............

Your daughter look a lot like your wife's pictures, other than the hair length difference. You are a lucky man, but I'll bet you already knew that.

Really, another jersey?!! Face it, you need professional help.

Step away from the computer, put the plastic away.....that's it, back away.... I guess addiction comes in all forms.

Actually, you are my hero. Next time the wife questions another cycling related purchase, I'll point to your picture and tell her __ hey, you should be thankful I'm not like this guy.

Geeze Louise! That's a bunch of Spandex!

I think I have three cycling jerseys hanging in my closet - although I did just order a 50+ jersey with the latest re-order. I believe I might have two pairs of cycling shorts. To be honest, I'm just more of a hiking shorts/t-shirt kind of guy when I ride. At least I don't wear long tube socks any more! Whatever I wear, it gets covered with the orange mesh safety vest with the wide lime reflective stripes.

In my defense, I do get to point out that I ride almost every day. And that a good number of the jerseys are ones I designed.
And honestly, I don't have a problem. I could quit any time I want to.
