This is a great video for getting to know the TDF: https://www.wimp.com/tourfrance/

Why does this look so familiar?.... Did someone else post the same link a couple days ago, somewhere?

I keep thinking it's like the French version of one of Alle Jet's XTRANORMAL creations.

Thanks for posting. I sent it to all my non-cycling friends and family -- many of whom think I'm nuts for riding a bike at my age.

Excellent video. Thanks for posting. I like how they used current team jerseys when showing the peloton.

Thats so funny - and not hard to imagine. My daughter on the other hand, at the age of 23 still finds it embarrassing when her dad wears lycra in public.

My daughter, years ago came with her girlfriend to share a beer with me and my cycling buddies. She warned her friend: "prepare to feel hairy and out of shape". she is good.

Good post

One of these days I'm gonna hafta pick up the documentary "Klunkerz" that delves into the birth of the whole mountain biking scene that I completely missed out on even though I was riding just after it started.

Riding with my 24 year old daughter yesterday, and she says, "Dad, I still would like to see you ride with those guys in the Tour..."

"So, you want to see your Dad crash at 35+ mph in a heap of other cyclists? My best strategy would be to be lost off the back on Stage one..."

Our kids see us in a much better light than we see ourselves.

I learned something about the guys in the TdF years ago. The first cycle race I saw was a JR. race and there was this one skinny little kid that was out running them all by himself by a huge margin and he just put more distance between himself and all the others through the whole race. That kid was Greg Lemond. Those guys in the TdF are world class athletes and are a very rare breed of men. No point comparing yourself. Those guys not only have the benefit of great genes, but the best training, and a whole lot of personal ambition. No sense getting down on yourself.

Yup. A pro cyclist can ride an hour time trial at over 30 mph. I can ride 30 mph for, oh, a minute.

Thanks for the video!

My favorite things about le tour:
Watching the pros descend! OMG!!!
The scenery
And usually, watching Cavendish sprint. [ So sad this year! ]
Phil Liggett

Least favorite:
The throngs of fans clogging up the lane. Telephoto lens? Really?
Crashes. Hate the cobblestones. Why, oh TFG designers?

About the only thing that you need to understand is the fact the Tour is a huge money machine. The fact that it is a bike race is second.
