Since I have ridden 2 330k rides and 5 double centuries, should I have checked randonee as well?

How about 'organized' rides like charity rides, multi-day (Sebring or RAGBRI or Bubba Rides)

Where's mountain biking?

Basically I ride "recreationally", "commuting" and I forgot to add "touring" if that includes multi-day trips (but I generally pay for a sag). I also pretty seriously mountain bike. Used to club ride (pacelines and all that) but not anymore - got concerned for my safety!

Isn't that what randonee is all about? Or does it mean something else?

Come on now, how in the world would I know what you should check? Just define yourself.

Single track XC mountain biking. My favorite (though I haven't done it in a long time) is to follow a topo map and find some fishing holes.

I ride on weekends and days off from work- usually about 30 miles at fast clip. I have a mountain bike, but it's set up more as a utility bike than a mountain bike. I also like working on bikes almost as much as riding them. Because of that and my current economic situation, my bikes are all from the last century.

To an extent, yes. The main difference, as I see it, is the brevets and permanents are not supported rides; there are no sag stops nor support vehicles. The California double centuries I ride tend to be well supported. My experience is limited (the Grand Tour Lowland Double, Solvang Spring Double, the Hemet Double) but the rides have been great.

I would classify those are "Rides" - most centuries have pace lines and the like. Multi day I would classify as supported touring

I checked recreational, utility, commuting, and touring. Also, winter, which has the four same kinds of riding, just not as much nor as long, but colder!

We have a fair bit in common -- I enjoy working on bikes and I run a bike fix-up project every October for the Community Resource Center in Encinitas. (If anyone near the north coastal San Diego County area is interested, PM me about participating -- it's the third Sunday in October at EncinitasChurch.com.)

By choice, all of my bikes are from the previous century, and a couple of them have now passed the half-century mark.

My favorite utility bike is my mountain bike.

I didn't check winter since the poll indicated frozen water and we don't get much of that around here. Still, 99% of the self-described cyclists around here disappear when the rains start and don't come back for seven months, so liquid water must count for something.

I added "touring" to my checkbox, even though I have not yet actually toured. It is on my bucket-list however. ... Just where did the phrase "bucket list" come from, anyway?!?!?!?

The other two that I actually do do, are "recreational/excercise", though I do the two separately, and "utility" for groceries, bank, post office, and the like. I do tend to put the utility part at the end of my morning exercise rides, since I get the grocery store practically all to myself, early in the morning.

Popularized by the movie with Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman; a list of things to do before you 'kick the bucket' (die).

I checked off recreational, utility and winter. I've done self supported touring in the past and organized tours (there's one for the list,) but it's been a while so I didn't include it.

I was going to post this same question since I do a lot of them each year. For me it's endurance, long distance and just riding the bike.

I'm down in Chula Vista. I don't know if there's a bike co-op anywhere down here. Sounds like a good source for parts, though.

Anyone who rides double centuries+ can lay credit to randonee sag or no sag. I consider randoneers to be elite, ultra riders; something to admire but definitely not something I ever aspire to. 100 miles or so is a goodly distance; can't imagine going farther...

I said that to a friend once.. then some other friends rode the Grand Tour ( in 2010). That got me thinking! Another plus... I met RickOCCR at the Hemet Double this spring. I know it is hard to believe someone when they say they had fun riding a double, but it is true.

and that doesnt mean I dont still enjoy centuries! and for whatever reason I feel just as tired at the end of a century as I do for a double.

speaking of doubles, I hear the Davis and Eastern Sierra doubles are great rides

I've yet to figure out why I ride or even what to call the kind of riding that I do.

I'll keep working on it and let you know once I figure it out.
