Brown Brooks saddle getting darker
I picked up a brown Brooks B17 a few months ago. After almost 6 months of riding, the area where I'm sitting is getting, darker--probably as a result of sweat, body oils, and bag balm. The rest of the saddle retained its color. Anything I can do to darken the whole thing? Will Proofide do it?

You don't put a leather saddle on your bike for looks. You put it on your bike for comfort. It's appearance will change with age and use. That tells all of us who might see your bike that you actually ride the thing. Al

Still learning
Actually, a lot of C & V enthusiasts love to look at the classic design of a Brooks.
The uneven patina of aging leather is part of the lovely character of the product. Baseball gloves, Coach bags, horse saddles, etc. Shoes not so much, unless they are Red Wings, Topsiders, etc.
Proofhide does not include any coloring agent, but will darken it slightly.

It takes about six months to get the saddle "conditioned" with this Brooks Proofide, but it does work. I really love my Brooks Saddle.

... I have 2 brown-black Brooks Pros
the TSB of Proofide waxes melted, when I put the saddle in a 100 F oven, upside down..
it soaked it in like a sponge, .. they've been fine ever since ... one 30+, the other 25 years..

Don't over do the Proofide. I did at first to break it in fast and it got a little saggy sooner rather than later. I adjusted it out OK and stopped using it and it seems to be OK so far. The instructions that come with the saddle are worth sticking to.

Just ride it and enjoy the changes as it ages.
A few years ago, this B-17 Special was Honey Brown.

I started the season with a new Brooks B17. 750 miles later, there's not much darkening, but it's starting to show wear around the back edge at the rivets, as if the surface finish is rubbing off.
Not sure if that's normal or not, but it's feeling pretty good...
