why I like to ride through farmland - pictures from the road

There are lots of reasons I love to ride through farmland, but, it really comes down to this, I love the beauty of it all. I love the hilly fields, the old barns, the old country roads, the old wooden fences. I took the new Canon G1X along for the ride today and took a few shots along the route.

These were captured using the 4:3 ratio on the camera. I reduced the size to 1024x768 and posted them on my publishing company server.

The church is along a farm road. I hardly ever see cars in the lot. It must be a small congregation that meets there. There is a much larger assembly about half a mile down another nearby road. The old white barn doubled as a tire store for years.

Lovely pictures.

You might consider getting a Photobucket account, and use the IMG to link the photos. Really easy to do.

I'll look into the idea. Thanks.

Looks very similar to the country, in western Illinois that I ride through. I agree it is very pretty. I'm also lucky enough to ride along the Mississippi regularly.

You don't need a photobucket.

Last night, I bought a new wide-carriage Canon photo printer from BHPhoto in NYC after they concluded their observance of the Sabbath and opened up their order-process again. The printer will be delivered by Wednesday. I'll be able to print gallery images again. I plan to print some of the pics I take while on the road cycling. I'll be looking for cycling related photo ops.

Nice pix! There is something about old barns, green fields, and open roads. They tell stories!

I recently decided to standardize to the 16:9 aspect ratio, even though my cameras all shoot 4:3. The reason is that YouTube uses 16:9, and I sometimes put the photos into a video. That avoids the black bars on the sides of the images. Most of these are 16:9, and you can see how they use the space better (view it full screen):

.be
Also, the most popular screen resolution is now apparently 1366×768, which is 16:9. Thus when viewed full screen, you get the most bang for your buck.

Yeah, I understand the logic behind it. It's just that I do a lot of shooting for photo galleries (mostly landscape and architecture these days). I am going to shoot some of the 1:1 and 3:2 formats with this camera and see what results I get. Still, it is hard to set down the Rolleiflex, so, I have to play around with the 1:1 and compare the results. The Canon G1X impresses me thus far. There are also no bad pixels on it.

I really enjoyed your video and your playing. First off, great musical piece. Very well played. Excellent production, too.

I grew up in a very rural environment and worked on a dairy farm during high school. I love farms, barns and animals in pastures and wild flowers along the road. It is my favorite kind of riding.

A few years ago I was on a club ride that, for a short distance, paralleled a pasture with a horse. The horse got excited by the movement of bikes and began galloping with the bikes. I enjoyed that and, evidently, so did the horse.

Did uou know that a small hare (rabbit?) can run 15 miles per hour while racing a bicycle?

Our local hares have never learned to run parallel to the road. They invariably run across it.

I love riding the rural roads of Vermont but nothing beats the beauty of the nature.

Beat me to it!!
This post inspired me to comment on some of my riding when I lived in Vermont. You beat me to it!
One back road I took to North Clarendon every morning would have chickens and a cow or two just standing in the road.
I think in a year of commuting, I was passed three whole times I love rural riding. Its great you guys who put these pictures up!!

I love Vermont. I spent time in Arlington and Manchester. I loved the area, but fishing the Battenkill was not nearly as good as many of the streams I used to fish.

I somehow, in the first viewing, missed the fact that the horse jumped a quite tall fence to join the pace line. It would be ultra cool to be in a pace line with a horse. Humans first experience with speed faster than human speed was on horse back so I find the video fitting. I love horses.

My wife also missed the horse jumping the fence. She noticed it on the second viewing. I am amazed how long the horse kept running. The next question is this: Did it ever make its way back home?

Went for a long ride with my son who just returned from Seattle after a 3 month internship. Out in farm land he commented that he sure did miss riding out here. Said it feels so open and free. Seems city life is ok, but long term...nah.

Last Sunday I saw this "animal" cross the road a quarter mile ahead ... as I approached I could tell it was a "big" dog so I rode to the opposite side of the road. Let's say I'm not a fan of trying to out pedal dogs with an appetite for cyclists. Turn's out this old fella wasn't the least bit interested me. Thankfully. It continued to be a nice ride through the country side.

This next photo was taken on Monday this week on a loop tour through Washington state ... an old homestead out in the middle of no where.
