Waterrock Knob is a good climb but we locals don't count it unless you start in town or in Cherokee. Both about 18 miles up, one with 3900' the other with 4700'.
When you say "in town" are we talking Maggie? I have done the climb to Waterrock from the view tower in Soco but that is up the hill from maggie quite a ways. Good place to leave a car though

Town for me is Sylva. There is a back road that takes us up to the BRP, then on to Waterrock Knob.
