I was just in the Tampa area last week. I rode the Suncoast trail from hwy 54. Starting temps were 58 degrees and people at the trailhead were in full leg tights, arm warmers, long sleve jackets and ear covers. They looked at me like I was crazy when I launched with arm warmers, jersey and shorts. I was looking at them like they were crazy. They were looking at me like I was crazy. I guess it is all in what you are used to.

There were some cross country ski tracks, but for most of my hike, I was the first track. On the bicycle ride, I had leg warmers under the lightweight blue tights. As the temperature varies greatly as the day progresses, I carry a fold-up back pack to carry my stuff as I remove it when it warms up to 40 and 50F.

In the winter of 2007, I was working out of Yellowknife. Every night, between 2 and 3 am, there was a cyclist riding the Ingram Trail towards town. -40 was pretty routine. That guy was my hero.
-40 is where the two scales intersect.

Our overnight temps will be pretty nippy for the San Francisco Bay area:

The horses are blanketed, hoses drained, above-ground well piping covered. I'll be riding 11 am or so: mid 40's and above is no problem, but I really prefer the temps to rise to 60 or so in order to shed clothes.

I have ordered a long-sleeve base layer to wear with my wool arm warmers so I can avoid a long sleeve jacket.

-40 is where the scales merge.

My wife has never seen colder weather in her life and it's only -20C now.

Time to call a meeting of the winter cyclist support group.

SixtyFiver, you should have ordered that union suit I showed you for your lady when you had the chance. Now she's cold and the last thing a man wants is cold feet on the back when she is trying to get warm.
