To make you snow-bound riders feel a little warmer, here's a picture from a ride last week. We stopped for late breakfast/lunch at River Ratz in Nobleton, FL. Enjoy.

I don't know where you ride at but I have never seen a gator on the pavement near my house. I live 1/2 of mile from Lake Apopka and never seen a gator roaming around our streets, let alone the West Orange Trail where I usually ride.

btw what trails are there in Oviedo or near there?

I've seen gators on the roads in Black Hammock, then again, it s located next to Lake Jessup...which is noted to have more gators per square mile than any other area in the state. I've also seen them on the Van Fleet Trail out near Polk City. More often, they are below the bridges in the shade because its too hot.

Oviedo has a portion of the Cross Seminole Trail running through it. It connects to The Cady Way Trail near where I live which runs all the way down by Orlando Executive Airport on Colonial Drive. The other end connects a trail that runs north through Seminole County also. All of these are part of the "Rails to Trails" system. The CST is sort of annoying, as it has far too many stop signs and parts going through residential sections. When I grew up here there were zero housing tracts in the areas they are in now. We used to ride motorcycles and 4 x 4's on the abandoned tracks back then.

Oviedo has also gone crazy with yuppies moving in. I recently told somebody I lived here and was met with raised eyebrows and "That's pretty upscale!". That's an odd response after 30+ years of "Oh, then you must be a stupid redneck.". Back by Black Hammock are a few roads about 5 or 6 miles long that you can make huge laps out of to pump up the miles quickly. I recently found another former railroad track I used to off road on has been converted to a trail...sort of half way between Oviedo and Geneva. If you stay away from the south side of the city (where I live) between it and the college, you can usually find decent roads to cycle on.

Looks like a cool and wet few days here, get the rain gear out Yoda, we are going to get wet from the front backing up as a warm front out of the Gulf, as usual for December. The current temp is both the high and low for today and right now the really frigid temps aren't forecast for here.

Yoda, as a former '74 Raleigh International owner, we need to hook up for some miles some time. When you get the 50 posts for P.M> permission shoot me a line if you want. I am in the Molino/Barrineau Park area just off of US 29. My brother lives off of Quintette Road near 5 Points west of Pace.

You can keep that white stuff and the cold weather. These were taken Saturday after a charity ride I did. The wife and I decided to stay after the ride, have a picnic and walk around the park and the beach. Yep, we were wearing shorts and had to put the A/C on in the car for the ride home. Friday had a record high of 86º and after Saturday's ride, it was a cooler 84º. It's currently 78º with an expected high of 82º for today. Ya'll come down and ride some, ya heaa!

Yes, there were people swimming at this beach.

Bah! Florida is a dump! Well, except for the panhandle.. and maybe the Gulf Coast.. but the Keys are nice.. and the Atlantic Coast north of say.. Miami is pretty good but I would be remiss if I didn't cut Ocala a break too. But other than that, Florida is a dump.

Here's a photo from Southern California, taken a couple of weeks ago when I stopped my forward (and upward) progress on Hwy 39, just a mile or two short of Hwy 2. As you can see, there are some tracks but I could tell by the marks in the snow that they were made by mountain bike tires.

My 700 x 23 tires were slipping around a lot, so I went back down the mountain. It was right at 32 Deg.F when this photo was taken.

The worst possible vehicle to drive on that kind of road surface is a highway tractor with no trailer, what we call a bobtail. Yet, I watched three of them thread their way through unscathed.

That's because those guys know how to drive according to road conditions.

And I thought Californians didn't know how to handle inclement weather... Speeding in that crap is pretty stupid, and then getting out of your car??? Was any one on foot injured or killed? I can't see if anyone had their flashers going either (no one carries flares these days it seems).

Flashers? Most people around here think they are for driving in heavy rain, it seems. The last thing they think of is to use flashers in an emergency, when they don't even know how to use a turn signal.

Winter can be quite beautiful here... the days get pretty short and the temperatures can be rather frigid but we also get beautiful days where the temps are in the single low digits and the sun feels quite warm.

You can sometimes get a sunburn here in the winter...
