Singer Phil Everly -- half of legendary Everly Brothers -- dies

At 74 years. Probably not so bad for a lifetime cigarette smoker.

That's the Crickets (Buddy Holly's band) backing them up in both of these videos, btw.

I heard the news first from the BBC, and I gather they were at least as popular in England as they were here. Their influence on the early Beatles stuff is unmistakable.

I was a small kid when they performed at the West Texas Fair. I went with my teenage brother and sister. I think I was perhaps eight or nine. I remember them singing "Bird Dog".

A class act. My first ever LP was The Fabulous Style of the Everly Brothers.

I read that they were persuaded to work on their harmonies as kids by the promise of bikes from their dad.

Sad to lose one of the Everly Brothers, I love their music. So smooth and crisp, whether it was a slow ballad or a faster metered number they always had nice tight arrangements.

The Everly Brothers were a huge influence on pretty much everyone in rock and country rock, from the Beatles to Keith Richards to Gram Parsons.

This is the main one I remember them by.

Possibly the best harmonizing group ever.

They influenced a ton of following artists with their sound, we will forever be grateful.

RIP Phil.

RIP Phil. We are starting to lose the musicians to whom we listened as we grew up.

It would be interesting to hear an updated version or the Righteous Brothers' "Rock and Roll Heaven" now (but it can't be them dang it). Some duo could add some names to the list, unfortunately.
