1980s Team 7-11 training video - where Chris Carmichael got his start

Click on the top of the video to take it to YouTube

A poster named longbeachgary posted this one over in C&V and since we have guys in here making themselves do intervals I thought I'd post it in here. Some of you folks might remember some of the people featured.

It's a 47 minute basic cycling training video from the '80s 7-11 pro cycling team. Lots of commentary and tips by 5 time Olympic gold medalist speed skater and 7-11 team rider Eric Heiden. Also tips from Jeff Pierce, Doug Shapiro, Ron Kiefel, Alex Stieda, appearances by Dale Stetina and team founder & manager Jim Ochowicz. And features Inga Thompson/ Benedict among other ladies with tips. Aaand one Susanna Steuerer does a leg self massage instructional piece at the 40 minute mark.

It actually has some pretty good basics in here even for some of you who forgot more than I know. It includes some fitting and nutrition basics as well as some general climbing advice, bike handling, paceline riding, and interval basics with some short sprint interval tips towards the end.

I'll see Kiefel in June. I'll ask him if he remembers doing this one.

Tell him hi from the 7-11 fans......most over in C&V nowadays. I hear this didn't get much play over in the roadie forum. Kiefel used to do the lead out for Phinney in the crit finishes on the 7-11 team. Before that they were usually competing with each other for it. He was a good time trialist.

I'm not sure but I think I even spotted him in the promo video for the '78 Red Zinger Classic right at the front of it. If that's him he's been around a long time. I've got him on video flipping off Rishi Grewal in the Boulder circuit race stage of the '88 Coors Classic.
