Gosh!
I, too, suspect the motorist may have been impaired.

Lots of things can get stuck in the windshield when you drive. A driver can't be expected to notice all of them.

A 50-year-old Green Bay man died in a similar accident in 2007. Steven Warrichaiet was sentenced to 15 years in prison for hitting Tyrone Ware, driving home with Ware's body lodged in the windshield and leaving Ware in the garage while Warrichaiet went inside and fell asleep on the couch. An autopsy showed Ware died instantly of spinal injuries.

No excuses, but I hope he wasn't "sleep" driving. There have been cases where medication has caused someone to walk, dress, and even drive while asleep--accountability should come into play though. Barring that, the guy should definitely be prosecuted.

I do hope the car wasn't too badly damaged (windshield aside). This driver has surely been inconvenienced enough by this incident.

As a society, we are far too tolerant of careless motoring.

Funny, last time I was hit was in a 4 way intersection with a lady talking on her cell while ignoring traffic. When she stopped and walked back she exclaimed to her friend " Just a minute. Some idiot on a bike just rode into me". That is when I decided I would have the cops charge her.

Figure the average working class guy lives to 72... or 51 adult years. If the guy doesn't get in any trouble while in prison (and most do)... even with good time he'll spend nearly a fifth of his adult life in prison. A long time away.... for mistakes made in one night in a drunken/drugged stupor... if that was the case.
There is no justice. Fifty years in prison wouldn't bring back a dead person. Money can't buy back the dead. How much prison time.... could ever repair the loss of a loved one? Locking people up is punishment.... plain and simple. If the idea of being locked in a cage for even just a handful of years isn't enough to deter you from drinking/drugging and driving.... you likely have an addiction problem. In which case.... what is a workable prevention?
Our criminal system ignores the fact that is doesn't really work well.
What's wrong with this picture? My guess would be your facts. Plain old pot possession is pretty much a misdemeanor.... you get a ticket and call in with a credit card to pay the fine.

I do wonder if alcohol was involved, or if the driver was having a mild form of epileptic seizure...

Respectfully.... I disagree. That is a huge period of time in prison.

There is the deceased in the 2008 case. What do you want to bet that if Mr. Ware had been the perpetrator and the victim had been a well to do citizen, Mr Ware would have had the book thrown at him ?
Because I've seen how DUIs go. A white college student is allowed six....maybe more by now in that particular case. A Latino machinist in the same city goes down for 2. Personally I've never managed to have one.....So no sympathy from me for the guy who kills someone driving drunk and doesn't even stop to try to render aid to his victim.

I totally disagree with you. Anyone that for what ever reason causes death or pain needs to be in prison a long time. They need to be made an example of as a warning to others. OTOH people that embezzle money and such that are not a threat to others just need to be fined a great deal and spend less time in jail.

Thank GOD!!! We need disagreement... or at least an examination of our criminal justice system. It doesn't work now.... and I don't have the slightest clue as how to make it work ether.
Examples! What a GREAT idea. Why not just round up every patron in say one bar in each city in America. Send them all to prison for life. Because we all know that SOME of them would have drove drunk. An EXAMPLE like that... would have a real effect.
Please don't take my humor as a insult to ether of you. I know everyone wants what is fair. Everyone would like a fair and workable system of justice that protects the innocence.... while fairly deterring those who would do harm. Or.... at least meters out punishment in a fair way. It is just that there is no such system... anywhere on Earth. Life is not fair.... there is NO justice.
Accepting our humanity and owning our fragility isn't the easiest thing to do. As a cyclist.... I share my travels with other people who could... by accident or dereliction cause me great injury or death. It is my choice... and I freely make it for my own pleasure and gain.
