Any Vintage Cannondale Riders In The 50+?
 
I'm a C&V rider that also collects and refurbishes a little on the side. This season I've been wanting to add a classic SR to my rack. I cant wait to rock an old SR600....or the holy grail SR800 Black Lightning.

How many others here are still actively riding one of these old racers? Sound off....let me know about your bike and experiences.

Owned a '91 SR300, own a 97 R500T that my daughter uses right now. Love Cannondales and their engineering, never felt that they rode harshly. Enjoy my CAAD 10 now.

I have an early ST that I've built up for gravel and rail trails. I think they are interesting and well made bikes. Also have an early 90's T700 for my wife. It has cantis as opposed to long reach calipers on the ST. And there is a violet very early SR waiting in the basement.

My favorite ride is still my 1990 400st. Of course, the only original parts are the frame, the rear brake and the DT shifter for the front.

Me too. My first ride was just a test ride on an '88 SR600 that I refurbed for a friend. Prior to that short ride I had merely wanted one in my collection of racers. After that ride I have become focused on getting one. I prefer pre-canti frame unless my jonesin' acts on me. :)

I think the violet one is an 85 SR300. Apparently it was rode hard and put away wet. All the components are worn and it needs paint or powder coat. I'm thinking of making it a single speed.

I saw the brochure pic on that one. Love that color.

1992 R1000. This year only, the model came with full Mavic group. My bike no longer has much of that, but the PO was a weight weenie and every replacement part was lighter. The wheelset is the lightest I've seen, Campagnolo tubular rims, oval spokes, Hi-E hubs.

When time and money allow, I'm planning to fit a longer stem (the bike is on the small side for me) and brifters. I've also thought about fitting a carbon fork with disc brake, if I can get over having mismatched front and rear brakes.

I had a "spare" group lying around so I bought a used CAD3 frameset, built it up, and rode that around for a few years. But it was a little too small for me and I eventually gave the frameset to my nephew.

That is what I'm shooting for. Should be quite attainable with a good wheelset swap. My first changeout will be the crappy chainset gearing. Some of them had Biopace.

These are the non-stock parts on mine:
- seatpost American Classic
- saddle Avocet Ti rail
- stem Tioga
- bar Scott
- rims Campy tubular
- hubs Hi-E
- chain unknown brand of hollow pin chain

The wheelset makes a big difference in weight, especially being tubulars.

I've figured out how to get it to <17 lb. The main changes would be:
- carbon fork w/ carbon threadless steerer
- White Industries Ti bottom bracket
- swap the Mavic 631/1 crank for the lighter 631/2

But I don't know if I want to change to threadless - kind of ruins the look IMO.

No. You must have 700c x 23mm at 125psi for full Cannondale SR effect. :)

Thanx for the info! Wheelsets are a good place to start with shaving weight. Also, the freewheel is a little boat anchor. Carbon fork and alloy or Ti Q/R skewers hold weight, too.

I have 4 SR frames from the late 80s. I only ride 1 and it is on my trainer for now. Normally I ride my CAAD or steel.

So, last night I saw one of the local vintage bike guys (small town) and I asked him if he knew anyone with an SR600 for sale. He said "I do but it wouldnt fit you, it's a 62". So after telling him I'm getting a frame for my spring build he says he could strip it and do me up with some grouppo. C&V 50+ers rock!

Nice colourway on the new acquisition, be sure to post it in the long running Cannondale thread in the C&V Forum. It would be nice to find another '91 SR300 like I owned and restore it for an every day rider. They were fantastic crit bicycles at a bargain price.

I sold a 50 mm (?) SR frame/fork, cosmetically fair, for $25. I was surprised I couldn't get more for it.
