Heading for Sarasota

Off to Sarasota for a week beginning Saturday. Visiting a friend who lives near the Liberty Trail. Hoping to get a jump start on some mileage for this season and maybe look for a place to rent for next winter, definitely won't be spending another one in the Northeast. Anyone who is familiar with the area? Suggestions for various rides with some sites. Spent some time on Anna Maria Island a couple of years ago and thought the biking was great, just had to watch out for the geezers driving around (I can call them that at my age).

Is that Liberty or the Legacy Trail? I have been on the Legacy Trail even before it was the Trail, as in when the RxR tracks were there. The ride south on the Trail and continuing on to the Venetian Waterway Park Trail makes for a great ride.

Why not post something in the Southeast Regional subforum? And why rent? Just sell everything and move.

Timtruro-I live on Longboat Key - about 12 miles long with a good bike lane each side. Good ride is from Bayfront, Sarasota, over Ringling Bridge (the only hill around and only 65ft high! Wide bike lane.), through St Armands Circle and out to Longboat. Total about 32mi.
Legacy Trail from Macintosh Rd parking to Shamrock Park on the Venetian Waterway is nice with a coffee stop in Venice. I normally ride this on Wednesday mornings and if the forecast had been correct, I would have been there now! The ride can be extended to about 42 mi by including Casey Key.

Anna Maria not recommended at this time of year - too many old geezers from up North driving around lost
Also take a look at www.smbc.us website for local rides with the Sarasota-Manatee Bike Club. Send me a PM if you would like some GPX files.

Thanks for the information. I spent some time on Anna Maria a few years ago and biked the island as well as heading down through Longboat Key and St. Armand Circle. Event got further to an area with a street called 'Avenue of the Presidents' I believe, though I might have the name wrong. Eventually ended up at a nature preserve that was great. Just checked out the website you referenced and hope to join that group for one of their rides if time permits.
