Another computer question
For the past 2 years i've been using a Bontrager Node 1.1 and the free Strava app on my Android phone. Between the 2 I can get mileage, speed, distance, heart rate, cadence and GPS tracking. Last Fall the buttons on the Node started to stick, most likely from sweat and it needs to be replaced. I can simply buy another or I can get a single device that does both.
I'm thinking of the Garmin 510. It can do everything and I don't need real time navigation since I know my routes and I have the cell phone if I need it.
Am I going in the right direction or am I just looking to buy a new toy?

The minute you said "computer" I figured you were looking to buy a new toy.
That said, why not? If you don't buy the Garmin what are you going to do with that money? Leave it for the kids after you die?

Originally I bought the bike without any computer. Then 6 months later i wanted some number to gauge my workouts so I got the Node 1.1. When I got the smartphone I added the Strava app. Now it's 2 years later and I need to replace the old computer. The main problem with the old one is the data can not be downloaded. That's why i'm thinking the Garmin 510 would be a smart move.
My son has a older Garmin 500 and told me to get the 510.

So is the difference between the 500 and 510 is that the 510 accepts Bluetooth? I know I could check it myself, but too lazy.

I'm not sure but does the 500 have multiple bike profiles? 510 does.
Did you get the bundle with speed and heart rate? If so be sure to unsnap the HRM from the strap when you are not using it to save battery life.

Never heard this before. I change my battery every spring, lasts the whole year. I do not have the soft strap version, if that matters.

It doesn't make any difference. I don't unsnap and don't change my battery until it runs down. Maybe 10,000 miles?

The bike is a Trek Madone and it has the speed and cadence sensor built into the bike.
And I bought it from the LBS that is friendly and answers my questions when I have them. They're also on one of my routes so I use it for a bathroom and water stop.
