Congratulations on your 20 miler, so now you're ready for more!

As noted above, hydration and nutrition are very important.

The rest you will learn as you progress and while you are sure to have some adventures, big picture is all good !

+1. Way to go Louis. I began late last summer after a 43 year layoff at age 71. I've got almost 3000 miles on my bike. Twenty miles is a great accomplishment. No need to try and go farther too quickly; enjoy the rides.

Bikes: Surly LHTD with a YAK trailer. I may have to ditch the trailer and go to panniers but I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I agree, biting off more than I can chew would not be a good idea. However, if I feel like I'm up to it then meeting the challenge and enjoying the accomplishment will be a rewarding experience.
