just a 2 mile ride

It was just a 2 mile ride yesterday, however it was a big milestone for me. On 3/06/14 I had TKR of the right knee, everything went well and have been obsessed with doing my physical therapy. I got to outpatient PT 3 times a week in addition to my workouts at home. Last week they started me on a exercise bike, which I had no problem with, so with the great weather here at the Jersey Shore yesterday I dug out my old ridged mountain bike, put flat pedals on and took off for a ride. It was just 2 miles at a easy pace but it felt great to be back on a bike!

Wow, that is a quick return after a TKR, glad things are progressing that well for you, 8 days out and doing a couple if miles is stomp down fantastic.

You've heard the saying " a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at work". I liken that to a bike ride of any length ... it's always nice to be on the bike (excepting in wind and rain of course).

I'm looking forward to the same surgery as soon as I can no longer put it off. I can still ride with no discomfort.

How was your range of motion, or what ever they call your ability to bend the knee when the right pedal rotated to the top?

I'm told that good patients recover quickly. Sounds like you've been a very good boy. Congrats.

I kind of had that feeling when I read your OP last night, didn't want to seem picky, though. Still glad you got back on the bicycle reasonably quick, with no complications so far. Getting old? meh, I've been doing the wrong date many years before I crossed the 50+ barrier, say about 45.

Two is a great return.

Nice and easy does it and those miles will continue grow. Good Luck.

SwampDude, my range of motion is good,it took a lot of manipulation to get to where it is now.The first 5 or 6 pedal strokes were the worst, after I loosened up I was fine. I can get my leg perfectly flat on the floor and I can bend my knee 120 degrees. My physical therapist says anything over 120 degrees is a bonus. good luck to you!
