Mrs. Mono and I have always wanted to to the Katy on our tandem. We were too late for the state park ride so I think we are going to do it this summer on our own, credit card style. Probably date is after June 20.

I still plan to go to the Saturday ride. I'm in the thro's of migrating to Windows 8.1 from my trusty old Windows XP machine. I hate spending money I don't have! I hate it more when the reason I have to spend money is an artificially created crisis! Grrrr! Argh!!! Getting the old programs to work on Windows 8.1 GRRRR!!!!! AAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

I need a long bike ride to clear my mind!

Starting in St Charles?

How many riders are planed?

End point?

Is there a transport back to the start?

My questions are probably silly but I have never done an organized ride.

We start and finish in St Charles so no complicated logistics. 50 mile version starts at about 8:30, goes East to Machens and meets the 25 mile riders back in St Charles. 25 mile ride starts in St Charles at about 10:00 and goes to the Daniel Boone bridge and back. Part of the "social" is deciding what restaurant to eat lunch at. We had 4 riders last year. There is also a possible Sunday ride mostly over paved bike trails in Madison county, Illinois.

RG,
I will not be able to attend this year- just signed up for the COPS Ride Across Illinois- we'll be on the road the 17th through the 20th. Have a red and some mushrooms for me...

Not an issue. The name of the ride says it all.

This drove me to Linux about 6 years ago and I've never looked back. Are those old 'scopes in your avatar?

On topic the ride sounds interesting, will need to see how the family activities pan out this summer.

Sorry, I've not visited here for a while. I think I've finished tidying up my post-migration Windows mess for now. My avatar comes from a bloody horror anime that doesn't make much sense until you've watched all of them two times or more. Those are all old style (and I mean old style even for ME) television sets. I jokingly refer to it as my multi-monitor setup.

I think I should bump this up, since the date is getting closer than I'd be comfortable forgetting. I've been getting so absent-minded lately, I'm quite frankly starting to feel a bit alarmed.

Oh, and some timely advice from experience here: It is probably not a good idea to go from infrequent riding, to two 20+ mile rides in two days on a brand spanking new untried saddle. Seriously, don't do it! My buttocks hate me right now. ow.

We still have a few openings available for the Katy Trail Social on July 19. If it turns out to be just Dave and me this year, that's OK with me too. I may even let Mrs. Grouch tag along.

My buttocks empathizes. Yesterday, I purchased a new road bike. I did a 22 miles this a.m. Fifteen miles into the ride, my bottom was uncomfortable.

I never rode on Katy Trail, but have heard a bit about it.

Carlyle, Il. You realize you're in the target marketing group for the Katy Trail Social. Should we hold a place for you?

Hi, I just found this site today. I am a new rider and I will look forward to joining you all on a later scheduled ride. I have only been on my bike for a few days and I don't want to slow anyone down. I can do a 7 miler, with hills, so I am sure it won't be too long before I can join in on a ride. How can I make sure that I don't miss the next scheduled ride on the Katy Trail? I am out of town for the July ride. Is it all men? or are there any women riders, too? Thanks, and hope to ride with you all, soon.

The ride name says it all, "social".

We're not into going fast. In point of fact, I stop way too much to take pictures. Come along and we'll keep pace, up to and including walking our bikes... in fact, with the white-tailed deer running across the path, that might be safer...

I finally got my saddle dialed in to the comfort zone (nose slightly up), so my butt-bones should be up to the challenge now.

I'm glad that I checked. For some reason I had this ride marked down as the 12th and 13th! Actually the 19th and 20th works out much better.

Well, it looks like Retro won't be able to make it. He had the tough choice of spending his time with three cute triplet grand-daughters on their birthday, or spending time with a random collection of old geezers.

Anyone else still planning to go? If not, I'll not be shelling out the gas money to go, by myself...

I'm going to drop out also. I got my fill of riding on the KATY last month when I did the entire thing, plus the wife and i walked 5.5 miles on it yesterday.

Let's try again next year.

The weather is looking good.
I plan on joining you for the second half.
How can I recognize the group?

It looks like everyone bowed out. Retro, JerrySTL, and I were the only certain ones, and Retro got a scheduling conflict, and Jerry had to bow out, and I'm looking at spending the day and money I don't have on a new car tire, after my sidewall got cut by irregular curbing...

Nobody else responded to my previous post with affirmations, so I don't think anyone else is planning to go either.
