The fastest of our approximately 200 riders in our Time Trial last Wednesday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway was not in his teens, 20s, 30s, or even his 40s. We show his race age as 60 but it might actually be between 50-60 just from what I can find online. Anyway I don't think we've ever had someone 50+ grace us with first place before. His average speed over 10 miles was over 30 mph. Looks like he does a lot of time trials across the US. And is also a Surgeon.

I don't think he lapped me more than once.........

The 2nd place rider was 35 and the third place was only 18 years old (impressive as well).

was the wind a factor?i have been there before and it seems to be fairly wind proof {the stands**.i cant think of a better place in charlotte to have it.wish i had gone.

The wind was amazingly calm last Wednesday night. As you know the wind is normally out of the west and just funnels down through the stands and creates a nasty headwind on the frontstretch (little bit uphill) and a smoking fast backstretch (little bit downhill). However Wednesday night was just about as good as it can get for doing the TT's. It was a little warm but by the time I rode it was perfect.

Of course I look down to the last finishers, since that is where I would come in if I ever tried something like that. First off good for the folks that new they were slow but still took the risk of competing. In some ways I admire them as much if not more than the top finishers. Second, inquiring minds want to know, what was up with the DQ?

Regarding the "less faster riders". That's the beauty of this event. While we group folks together in different categories, the real competition is with yourself. The most ecstatic I've ever seen a rider was when a "slower rider" broke their Personal Record that had stood for several years.

The DQ---we have a rule that you cannot draft. The event is all about what you can do on your own. If you are closely following someone you should move over to the side of the rider in front of you. If you cannot pass you should drop back several bike lengths. We have race Marshals positioned all around the track to monitor activity and to quickly alert us to any safety issues like a rider going down. This particular rider was observed drafting, repeatedly warned by the Marshals but continued to draft.

We would also DQ riders who do too few laps.

That is so cool. I want to do that ride now. I wonder how I can justify to the wife the need to travel from California to North Carolina to ride a bike. I have gotten her to approve as far as Tuscon. Maybe if I kept driving and said we were lost......

Those are consistent lap times. They must have done this before.

That looks like fun, although I'd end up in the lower-middle of your results. For 10 miles I could probably keep a 22mph pace IF that was all I had to do that day!
