First Ride
After nearly 3 months off the bike due to a broken arm, I got the all clear from the doctor today to resume normal activity. Due to previous evening commitments I was only able to ride 6 miles on the MUP. The ride went really well except for two guys on mountain bikes riding two abreast around a blind corner. Fortunately, we were able to both stop in time but, I was reminded why this particular stretch of the MUP needs extra caution (I flipped at the same corner last year with a similar situation).
Tomorrow morning will be 20 miles with an acquaintance. I have a lot of miles to make up.

Grats on being able to ride again. I use biking for mood control and being off the bike for rest or whatever drives me crazy.

Six miles after an extended break sounds prudent to me, whether intended or not.

Concur! Been there ... done that, with a Colles' fracture of the radius in 1995 -- not bike related. I was cautiously back on the mountain bike before the short arm cast came off. The fracture did scare me into weight training, since bicyclists are famous for having great cardio systems and weak skeletal systems.

So? How'd the twenty go?
See how they are? Give 'em more saddle time & they don't show up here anymore. (Nice, Huh?)

I did not get my 20 miles in on Thursday but, I decided to try and fide the final two days of Biking Across Kansas. Friday I rode 37 miles at an averge of 16.4 mph and 1,348 feet of elevation gain. Saturday was 35 miles, the first 20 miles were in some heavy rollers (1,168 feet of elevation gain) with a 20 to 30 mph cross wind and the final 15 was relatively flat but dead into the 20 to 30 mph winds. While the Saturday ride kicked my tail, I did not give up and was able to finish.
Even with stiff muscles it feels so good to be back on a bike. I am going for a nice recovery ride today.
