The Birthday Ride

Last year I discovered that another member of our cycling club shares a June 19th birthday with me. So, I invited our usual Weds ride group to have a ride and pizza and beer at our house. I called it the "Birthday Ride." This year I put out an email announcing the 2nd Annual June 19th Birthday Ride (held on the Weds closest to 6/19) and a new rider said he'd like to join in. And btw it's his birthday too. Turns out this guy is riding an early
80's Bianchi Squadra that he bought second hand at the LBS. Actually it was my bike that I rode in Puerto Rico for a week about 30 yrs. ago. He said he wondered why it had that Puerto Rican bike shop sticker on it. We ended up with 16 riders and did 27 mi. Then on to the pizza, beer and a bit of Bushmill's. Really a beautiful day.

Just some pics of our house and a couple riders.

Happy birthday!

Mine's today too, but my birthday ride won't happen until the weekend. Little thing called work getting in the way. Metrics are my favorite length, and fortunately, I can still get change back on the ride.

Wish I could say that. Today I'm 68. What happened? Yesterday I was only 30!

Bushmill's is much better at replacing electrolytes than Gatorade.

Ditto the Happy Birthday and also the ride plan. (Mine was 17th). It won't be awesome like friends pizza & beer though. What a great tradition.

My wife's is tomorrow. I'll be doing a birthday ride for her. We're planning on going to a bar to meet up with friends for a few hours and then we're going to lisa lampanelli for some laughs. I got us tickets in the 5th row almost dead center so there is a chance she will make fun of us.

Okay, now I'll sneak my under 50 butt out of here...

Got it a couple months ago. It belonged to a club member who is a really successful racer. It was too big for her. I think it was actually given to her. It was ridden twice by her from new. All SRAM Rival and Mavic Ksyrium wheels. She sold it to me for $1200. My gf gave me a SRAM Red crankset for my birthday and I put a Red Yaw front derailleur on. It's a 54 and fits me perfectly. I made the mistake of buying a Park scale so know the weight of every damned thing in my life. It weighs 18 lbs. with pedals. The ride is really nice. Loving it.
