I have seen ones like that along a test drive route for tractor trailers.

They are too close to be air patrol for speed.

We've got road signs here in Missouri that read "No Center Stripe". Why? Shouldn't anybody who can see well enough to read the sign also see that there's no center stripe.

My point exactly. This is the "show me" state not the "read me" state.

They look like optical speed bars. As they get closer together they should induce a driver to slow down as his speed will appear to be increasing. That's the theory anyway.

Correct. Google optical speed bars.

Answer of the day: The Illuminati

This is for ground based crowd control, whereas HAARP is for air based. The end, it's coming. Prepare for the rapture.

We could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you.

Their effectiveness depends on a bit of optical illusion. Like the Placebo Effect, they lose effectiveness if people know what they are.

The reality is that they're there because folks have learned that if the diamond warning sign "Curve -- 45mph" means that they can take the curve at 55mph. Safety warnings are like drug addiction, as people adapt and adjust ever stronger doses are needed.

Next, after the optical speed bars stop being effective, they'll move to rumble strips, of the kind used approaching toll barriers in many places.

Interesting.

The ones that mystify me are around here in Arkansas. Every once in a while there will be two white stripes each leg maybe 16" long that form a sort of W with the bottom of the W toward the shoulder. I've seen maybe a dozen of these around here. Wish I had a pic.

They do a bunch of painting tricks here as part of so-called "traffic calming".

They place you into a time warp.....technology has moved past the "time-tunnel" to strictly roadway markings.
