Riding with a GOPRO Camera
Recently purchased a GOPRO Hero 3+ Black Edition and took it out on its maiden voyage recently. I am quite suprised the quality of video for such a dinky little camera..

Were you using a chest mount for that shot? I find I get better video with my chest mount than the helmet mount. I've also been using a clamp on gooseneck for some videos. Lets you get some cool angles.

Nice! You've just posted video evidence of yourself running a stop sign. Turn yourself in and beg for leniency.

I bought a GoPro hero 3 silver in June. I use the helmet mount, but you dont want to move your head around too much.
they are fun to work with. If you intend to upload the videos to YouTube, you probably want to limit the video to 10-15 minutes. I have been using Microsoft Movie Maker to edit the files created by the GoPro. That does take time.

That is a great video. I ran my GoPro on Potrero, so that segment is about 20 minutes long. I later found it created 2 videos, and the last one was 6 minutes was from the top of the climb.

Let me advise you to use the wrist strap for a tether. You can run it through the back cover hinge and around the bolt that fastens it to the harness or handlebar bracket ( especially the handle bar bracket ). It's no fun looking for it when the mount brakes and it tumbles off the road at twenty plus MPH.

I use PowerDirector to edit... almost always works fine and has a few more nice features than MovieMaker.

Here is the first part of the climb.... it is 19 min long, and has my breathing in it.. no music or any other improvements.

here is the top of the climb. I am pretty sure I had the cam on for the entire climb, but for some reason two separate videos were created.

Congrats on getting your camera and having fun with it on the bike. I've had a GoPro for a few years but have only made a few bike vids.

We call it the Summit Wall. I leave my Contour on all the time so I have a video of the Summit Wall nearly every week... but it's not often that I pass someone... so that particular clip was Vimeo-worthy.
I use PowerDirector to edit... almost always works fine and has a few more nice features than MovieMaker.

Speaking of replacing, for what little video work I do, I had Sony Vegas but that PC died and I'm now on 100% MAC. Need to look into new video editing software before my next tour.

Bike mounts make for a shakier video than a chest mount, but it gives you the flexibility to shoot various angles. editing down to short clips and stitching them together keeps the watcher more engaged.

Thank you az_cyclist, Very good videos and an accurate depiction of the brutality of climbing Potrero.
I watched all of both videos and it really brought that day (Grand Tour Highland Double Century) back for me!
It was great that you passed some riders and even showed some of those that gave up and started walking. Sorry the sun was in your eyes but nothing can be done about that. And even though it was in two parts, it doesn't look like you missed any of it.
Hopefully this will give 50+ riders in other parts of the country (and the world) some views of some of the cool climbs we have here in California.
Maybe I should get a Go-Pro myself . . .

I agree -I have three types: 1 - very short little clip for something interesting. 2 - one song length for an interesting ride 3 - three song lengths for a century. Nobody wants to watch 10 minutes of unedited footage with no transitions and doesn't tell a story.

That's one cool video! The music really makes it. Love the various viewpoints. I agree about using a chest harness for the down-the-trail shots.
