I am sorry; the sight of mums in the supermarket depresses me.

They are nice hardy looking flowers but to me they spell the end of summer
It has been a pretty good summer here in Southern Maine but all too short.
Yes, there is still the best part of the year left, the wonderful days of early Fall.
That's what I get for moving North 50 years ago. Had I stayed in Brooklyn I could
    have had a longer season.

I somehow thought this was going to be a lament about mothers...

But, I know what you mean. School buses, pumpkins, and the smell of sizing in new clothing bring on the same melancholy in me.

I am sorry you are sad about fall. I used to hate the wet leaves on the road. Now I just await the cooler weather so I can ride after 10 am.

Fall is coming to Virginia. I rode through a cool, misty rain today, and enjoyed a hot shower and a hot coffee when I got home. We have a 360 day riding season here, and I'm loving the cooler weather.

While most of you are lamenting the end of another cycling season, I'm celebrating the coming days when I can grab a quick ride after work without melting into a puddle of steaming goo.

I did something in the 50ish range today, and got up 4:30 to start at sunrise to beat the heat.

We didn't really have summer here in western Pa. Last few after work rides I started home in the car with the windows down and put them up after I cooled down from the ride. Had to run the heat a few days in the morning going to work, in August! We're suppose to have 90 days in August, not run the heat in the morning in the car. We haven't been in the pool since June. It's been too cold. Water temps should be the highest this month above 80. Pool has barely broke 70 since June.

If it wasn't for rain, this summer would have been the greatest for biking. It's pretty much been in the high 70's all summer. Rain just about every day put a damper on that.

The cool temps and rain makes it a little worrisome about winter.

Had I stayed in Queens I'd be riding in heavy traffic and fearing for my life. Here in Oregon i can get out into the country in 25 minutes through mostly quiet back streets.

You season may be shorter but riding in Maine has be be safer than Flatbush Avenue.

Fall has long been my favorite season, even in weather wimp southern California, where many of the trees do not get the "fall colors" memo.

Mums for me meant "homecoming" but now that I'm in Hawaii it's a non-issue. Hotter than H today and it won't be until late Oct that it gets a bit better (from a riding perspective). But I do notice that the other day I was coming home on a ride around 7:00 and I just beat sunset. I have to re-calibrate my "leave home no later than X" setting.

As its been in the mid 90's the last few weeks here seeing some mums on the stores won't phase me. Our "fall" is usually on a Tuesday, followed by in Indian Summer until January. We've had a mild summer, actually, what the fall and winter bring is anyone's guess. Last year it was our first ice storm I remember, this one may well be one of those where we head to the beach at Christmas.

Oh, and mums in the stores now, we had them back in June when schools let out, we cannot trust the stores for seasonal items much any more it seems.

It is 50F this morning. The days have been getting shorter since late June but I lament the Fall Equinox the most, the days then really get short really fast. I do like riding in cold weather, but once it gets into the high 30's or low 40's most "bicyclists" are like golfers, they pack it in for the "season".

The weather has been mild most of the summer in Detroit, but a heat wave near 90 is due in the next 48 hours. The apple growers are very happy too.

However, I thank God for a safe journey during my recent vacation travel to the west.
I've missed a hurricane and earthquake in Hilo, by a day. Then it fizzled out before it came through Oahu where we were staying.
I avoided the catastrophic flooding in Detroit where as much as 5" fell in 2 hours, by a day.
And where wine country received a significant 6.0 earthquake yesterday, it was less than two weeks ago we visited Sonoma and Napa.

I hope the Northern Cal BF members are all okay!

Here in Southern California, we're starting another heat wave. This summer hasn't been too bad, though, but it still sucks.
I hate the summer and can't wait for cooler temps.

I hate anything indicating the cold weather is coming too. However when spring comes, I miss riding in the snow, ice, and the cold. The best days to me, are when I can ride home after dark with no jacket, just a light jersey.

Sculptor, I began life in Brooklyn also but I'm a country boy now. You need to get cross country skis to find another season to enjoy. Nothing like cold air on your cheeks, spruce boughs bent gracefully bent down and laden with snow and your skis hissing as they glide effortlessly through a wooded trail. OK, so maybe not all that effortlessly but still, an excellent way to spend a morning.

It means the after work rides are put on hold for a few months, excpet for the 'ride to ice cream' rides(till they close). Then it's weekend only rides.
Hopefully we'll have another snowy winter. Skiing, snowshoeing, just as fun.
If you don't know the way, you shouldn't be going there.

After 200" of snow and -28F last winter....I really hope it's easier this winter. In the meantime we are finally going to have summer....in September. Polar Vortex summer, ya know.
Having a flat tire as part of the total cycling experience is highly overrated. Knowing how to fix one quickly is not.
