When did water bottles get so expensive!?
I blew out the seam in an old water bottle, so stopped in the bike shop looking for a replacement. The owner has been riding and raving about the Salsa Colossal, a friend, who is a Salsa "Brand Ambassador" has begun riding and raving about the bike as well. So as the owner is looking up the price of the water bottle I want (he doesn't stock the Podium bottle) I see he has the floor model Colossal marked down by $600! I go, "Man you're killing me! Is it a 54?" Nope, a 56. BUT a person usually can fit 2 sizes, if I bring my bike in, we'll see how they match up. So all things as they are, two water bottles cost just over $1500, since they came attached to that Salsa Colossal!

Nice. As set up, the frame doesn't look too big for you. How do you like the disc brakes?
Doncha know that water bottles purchased in person have always been expensive? The only way you can get them for a reasonable price is off the net.

Awesome looking bike. They didn't have bottle cages to match the bike? And I have to agree with Cycle Babble. Why not insulated bottles?
We'll be waiting for a ride report.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought the last frame I purchased would be the last. Guess not. I'm starting to lust after one of those DogmaK Hydro frames. Not until paint jobs get "better". Black was fun for awhile, but now just about everything is black. Its getting old.

Salsa makes great bikes. Love my Casseroll. Can't say I see the point of disc brakes on bikes without wider tire capability than mid reach calipers can handle (I am running 34mm wide tires on my Casseroll, Salsa says the Colassal can take up to 30mm), but that's just my preferences. A Colassal with room for 38 - 40 mm tires would be one helluva dirt road bike.
I hope you have many great miles on the new bike.

Until I realized that you weren't really talking about water bottles, I was going to say that I have more than enough free water bottles from event rides, and I've also been known to stop and pick up bottles I find along the side of the road. I'd be happy to ship you a couple ... but seems that you have that covered now. I'm pretty sure that the LBS would throw in the bottles for that purchase, maybe even the Podium's. Congrats on the yet another N+1, or is it +100 now?

LOL love the story, didn't see it coming!
I walked in to have a frame faced/chased and almost walked out with a Vaya a couple of months ago... but my wallet simply couldn't support it at the time.

Jeese, I'm fixing to order some new Podium bottles shortly, I never dreamed those little extras could run up the price so much, oh well now its convincing Monica that it was just one of those extra expenses that comes up with cycling consumables

Back in the mid-70's, when I worked at Bikecology mail order, I saw our landed cost on a water bottle (imported from Italy at that time) was 11 cents. Yes, .11 cents.
Of course, everything (almost) is less expensive if you go back in time, but still . . .
We landed Silca floor pumps for 1.88. Funny the things that stick in my mind from my Bikecology days .

Stand along side a Pro Bicycle race route, they throw them away, to the roadside when the bottle is empty.
