Thanks, Dan! We are happy for them and think they've both chosen well. As for nudging them, I don't think I have to worry about that. The bride seems to have her sights focused on that plan, which is fine by me! They have known each other since grammar school, and been a couple for about four years. We will see them over Thanksgiving and I'll be watching to see if she refuses a glass of wine.

Here I am in November 2013. No, I'm not wearing a dress. There is a black sandwich board behind me.

^ Jeez ... are you kidding? That's a great face! I could take a great BW portrait with that kind of material.

Uh, yeah, it does. We are family, of a sort, and I've ridden with a handful of fellow forum members. From Nebraska to Idaho to California. We share a common bond, which we discuss often in this very forum; trading ideas, experiences, tips, and offer help and encouragement to each other. Knowing what someone looks like strengthens the bond.

Tall Travel, 1. welcome to the 50+ asylum, stick around, B. You have absolutely no idea just how nuts we are here. None. We are nuts, NVTS, nuts, to quote our mentor Mel Brooks.

This week, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Miss Kenton and TheMister (“Mr. Miss Kenton”) in Philadelphia (I’m on the left). We have ridden and socialized on two of the previous Fifty-Plus Annual Rides (Finger Lakes, 2010; and Boston, 2013).
Myself and a few other Fifty-Plus subscribers have been together on a few, some up to about four of the preceding eight rides, but it seems that the idea of Fifty-Plus Annual Rides has been waning recently. I think all the participants have had a good time, as members of Fifty-Plus, for example with these comments from Ride V in Boston last year:
And
Of note, Dnvr Fox has made a proposal for a 7th Annual Ride for next year in Santa Fe, NM (too far for me). I had hosted two Rides in Boston in 2013 and 2014. I enjoy these gatherings so much, that I am considering the idea of a couple of “Boston Bicycling Weekends” this summer.
Like the usual format of Fifty-Plus Annual Rides, they would be in conjunction with an organized ride in Metro Boston. Friday afternoon would be an informal short ride, Saturday the main ride, and Sunday an additional ride; all interspersed with social activities as decided, like restaurant dinners, walking tours of Boston, or whatever. Stay tuned for a thread next Spring.
Does it really matters what one looks like?

… Besides meeting these E-acquaintances face-to-face, it is also much fun to meet them as residents of Bike Forums and especially Fifty Plus. None of my own personal circle know much of the Forums whereas those attending the Annual Rides are now face-to-face acquaintances and also know the other personalities on the Forums.
So we now as face-to-face friends could chat about those other subscribers and their personalities as we perceive the personae they project on the Forums, making you all more “real” than I alone would imagine. I found these conversations that we five had about our neighbors in Fifty-Plus particularly interesting in light of the recent contentious and now-closed threads about Face to Face vs Internet Forum Communications.
For all those whom I’ve met on our three Annual Fifty Plus rides, you really get what you read. But since all are so nice and social, it seems to be a selected group, and I suppose that the whiny and cantankerous subscribers, even if only a front for nice and sociable real life people, just don’t join such activities. I’d like to say more about whom and what we discussed, but by mutual agreement,

…There is something very special and unique about meeting the people behind the posts on the forums. They are not fictionalized personalities, anymore than are the people you meet at work, or church, or through other friends. I would suggest that the majority here are simply people with common bonds--their age and a love of cycling. Some also share an interest in travel, new experiences, and a desire to meet and enjoy the company of like-minded people. IMO if you don't at least see the value of that opportunity, you are missing out on an amazing element of this forum.

We had a very nice evening in Philadelphia with Jim. Jim was in town for business but our schedules did not allow for a ride together. As we enjoy Jim's company, it seemed a shame not to visit with him while he was "in our 'hood." So in lieu of a ride, we all went to dinner together.
Later this month, when we visit Florida, we plan to meet up with another 50+ member and his wife.
I have read and seen photos of other members meeting up for rides, but our recent visit with Jim prompts me to ask if any of the other 50+ members ever meet up with other forum members to socialize when riding together was not an option.
