Fat Bike THIS!

Here is what the front end of our 2-day, 2ft of snow storm looks like. Maybe I should sell a bike and finance a fat bike??

Every time any of my 3 daughters...as they grew and I raised them...would mention moving up north?...and I said no?....and they'd ask "Why Not?"...I'd instruct them to go to the fridg...open the freezer door....and look inside...then as they did?...I'd ask them...

"Now...Would you want to live in there?"

(and they'd be non-responsive as I followed with...)

"Now do you understand....Why Not?"

and they would begrudgingly shake their heads in a yes motion.

Don't sell a bike to finance a fat bike...sell a bike for a plane ticket too Florida...I know a great LBS that has rentals...we'll ride.

I am south of OldsCool, and its snowing and blowing with the high maybe 20 today. Also dark at 5. Should still be some decent riding here in Nov. with the avg. temp. about 50. But this is some B&$ S#%#*

If that was the view out my front door, a FAT bike would be parked in the garage. Good thing is that there is a slim to none chance that I would be greeted with such a sight looking out any door or window of our house. It's a rather nippy 64F right now and getting ready to go out for a 5K, have some breakfast, air up the reassembled Paramount's tires and hit the road for 50.

Will be thinking about you-all while I'm sweating away the calories. Honest I will.

Rev,
Haven't you learned by now not to say it cannot get any worse? Dang, now this winter is going to be a humdinger, and its all your fault, too

Bill, all my hopes of not coming close to last year's winter just got piled up in a big drift.

Here in Boyne City we got 200" of snow last year. This is the worst November I have ever seen. We will probably end up with over 2' in the past 3 days.

We need snow out here! Up in Big Bear (altitude 6,700 ft.) they're having to ski on "manufactured" snow, blown onto the ski runs. Haven't seen any snow on Mt. Baldy either . . .

Will check with the bike rental places in Big Bear to see if they have FAT bikes for when the snow does (hopefully) fall. If so, and if snow . . . I will rent one!

My sympathy. Winter is just hard. The people I know who truly enjoy it all seem to have one thing in common...

they don't have jobs

I'm holding my breath here and trying not to say anything stoopid, like 'looking good so far...', or my favorite: 'we're expecting a mild one'...

It's past the middle of November and I can still see dirt.....thank God for whatever crumbs he throws us...

Jeez, Jinks, I feel sorry for any kid who has never had a good snowball fight, built a snow fort, gone sledding, made snow angels or built a snowman You should try a northern vacation with cross country or downhill skiing, snowmobiling and fat biking the groomed trails. Sure the weather can get nasty at times but every region has its storms. The majority of the winter is usually quite beautiful and a lot of fun.

All taken while on my touring bike with studded tires

Don't go to your LBS and absolutely do NOT test ride a fat bike in the snow. If you do, you won't be happy again until you own one.

I recall the upper elementary school age when we would beg dad to let us get the bikes out. Finally, the teen years came and it wasnt such an issue. November snow was the best. Having the bike slide out from under you was quickly followed by friends laughing their heads off.

When I was 17 we had a massive ice storm on Thanksgiving. After deer hunting and big dinner came a boring evening until my friends picked me up and we began an iconic bumper hitch wars session. Three of us dragging off the bumper of a '66 Dodge van to see who would hang on the longest turned out being a most memorable night of '74.

+1.

The only thing keeping me from having a fat bike in the garage is a lack of such justification.

I still love living in the upper midwest. Summers are good, spring is wonderful, and lazy fall days are the greatest. A few cold months can be tough, but I'd rather go south for a few months and come back --as my retirement plan, than actually move away from a fabulous neighborhood and a mostly wonderful climate.

I can tough out some early cold and snow because I'm not a wimp --up to a point (around mid January I'd embrace wimp-dom and travel south until mid March)
