Cold but clear 1st on the docket here in soWi. Start in racine with brief stop at polar bear club to share donations then on to the lake to watch polar shenanigans then coffee shop. Loop miles unknown. Hoping to try out the new Fat. Might be wrong bike for this trip though.

With favorable weather being predicted, 60'sF, I will head out between 0100 and 0200 on January 1st for a 3 to 4 hour leasurley ride on my grocery grabber with the iPod playing easy listening music. Our sidewalks are rolled up around 2100 so I expect little traffic, but will be very vigilant viewing behind with my mirror and also ahead.

Happy New Year and smooth roads ahead for all.

I plan on a ride. Hey, take it while we got it. You never know what the winter weather will bring.

So, who in Boston is going to sit back on New Year's eve and take in the annual Three Stooges Marathon?
The Twilight Zone Marathon is also that night. I find myself switching between the two shows.

Minnesota is below zero this morning and the forecast is the same for tomorrow, but I do plan to ride to breakfast Thursday morning when it might even get above 10 degree F by dawn.

I'm going for a 50 mile ride, training on my heavy bike for a Florida tour. I'm not fast but miles are miles.

Today was 25°f but sunny, so with enough layers, and a scarf over my face and neck, I was actually quite comfortable on my ride today with the exception of my fingertips being chilled even through the gloves. Compared to that, Jan. 1 looks to be a balmy 38°, but I'll be stuck at home, cooking, as only those who don't cook can cook. Anxiously, and with much cheating.

Update: Sigh. Just call me "Bean-Burner Bierbaum" Where did all that water go, anyway? At least it was edible. Just slightly "toasted".

Sigh.

I have a 50 mile loop I do most Thursdays, missed on Christmas so probably will knock it out on NY. Don't have any pay TV and all college games seem to be on ESPN these days so no option of vegging out in front of the tube.

So many of you are brave in my estimation for facing sub freezing cold on a bike. Me, I'll be riding 25-35mi but it will likely be in the 70s here in FL. I very much appreciate NOT needing to face WI cold these last two winters. All the best to all of you in the new year!

Ron,

If you're riding Withlacoochee on New Year's Day, I may run into you during our ride. A bunch of us that did the Cross Florida Ride are going there and riding from Ridge Manor north to Floral City or maybe into Inverness.

My wife Jackie and I (and her friend Rosanne) are planning to ride the Los Angeles Wheelmen's New Years Day Century. The route was changed due to the closure of Pacific Coast Highway, so it looks like Marina Del Rey to Seal Beach and back. Not sure if it's an out and back or a loop.

Guess we'll find out!

I tried this morning, at 12 degrees F; but, there was just tooooooo much frost, black ice, and ice around to do more than a few miles. The bike is back on the hooks, where it belongs in January..............

Good weather but the plans didn't hold. Bed early last night and wound up waking up at 23:15. Decided to head out on the grocery grabber to usher in the New Year. Only put a quick 6+ in then back home and remounted at 0800. Total of another 71 miles on that ride so 77 for the year.

Just joined the group today. Pretty dang cold here in Central PA. Did a 10 mile ride for about 33 minutes and I'm done.

Just started biking again seriosly after about a 26 year layoff with growing kids and stuff. Been an avid motocrosser for 38 years, but looking to do a lot of riding again on the bicycle. been at it for about 8 weeks now. Hopefully it's a good forum.

Sorry all you folks north of me aren't having the "nice" weather we're having down here. Nice winters is the main reason we retired here. Who would want to retire in the snow belt?
Anyway, the clouds parted this morning so I headed out. It was 56F when I left home and about 65F when I got home. Did 36 sunny, comfy miles.

Playing with a new camera from Christmas.

@bikemig, I had lots of plans, but we had a little snow last night in Newfoundland. I didn't want to take my Bianchi out on the salty streets. I guess I need a winter bike here as well.

As mentioned earlier the plan was to again go up our local mountain: Mt. Diablo. Here's the record from this year's ride:
