The Crud
There is a gastro-intestinal flu bug going around that has stopped my bestest spring start yet. After Monday's ride (the next day), it hit me. No vomiting, but have had 3 days of nausea, diarrhea, fever and aches. And now comes the cold weather again. Oh well, the crap shoot (sorry) of biking early spring.

That sucks! This year's flu shots were a notoriously poor match to this year's bugs; my wife had it worse than I did. Get well soon!

Don't worry, there will be a few more days of warm weather this year. At least, I hope there will be.

I've been posting from t he free computers at our town's library. The problem with that is that others come in to do the same while hacking and coughing and spreading misery. There ought'a be a law. On a related issue, it's snowing again so no riding anyway.

'tis true, there is nothing you can do about it, but wait until it passes. Many people call this "the stomach flu" and think of it as the flu. This is incorrect.
Most intestinal bugs are Norovirus, or Rotavirus. The flu shots don't touch it. The good news, is that it passes in two to three days for most people. Diabetics, the elderly,
and those with compromised immune systems have to be careful with this type of virus. Most information can be found here at the CDC web site:
Norovirus
This Web MD page also has lots of information on this nasty.

Its down here too, our son had it this week, first time he's been sick this year, even avoided a cols so far. Being a college instructor puts him at risk for anything going around and the foreign exchange students seem to catch everything going around.

You can get in fights when you tell some people that there isn't any such thing as stomach or intestinal flu. I quit trying and just walk away hoping that I don't get what ever bug, or eat the bad food, that is causing their digestive tract to revolt. If some has had influenza, they know what it is, and how much it messes up your lungs and makes you ache. Urrrrrggghhh.

been met with "Well, that's what my mother always called it!!", among other things. Why people get so agitated about this, is beyond me. All they need to do
is look it up, or ask their own PCPs. This is an example of what I call "entrenched mis-information". This is information that is just plain
wrong, but it is entrenched into the culture and people believe it, despite factual information to the contrary being in plain sight.
Influenza should never be under-estimated. Remember history: there have been flu pandemics that have killed millions. Flu shots are much
better today, but still, the viruses have this weird habit of mutating, sometimes very rapidly. As most people know, a cold takes several days
to come on, and it can be quite the nuisance. The flu can have you feeling fine when you arise and get ready for work, but have you feeling
like you've been hit by a cement truck by noon. That is one big difference. The chills, dizzy spells, and everything else say, "stay home!"

Sorry, but saw this and had to chime in.
Got it 02/11/15-02/14/15. Started feeling bad at work, went to the nurse, had BP check(OK). Had the squirts. Ended up in bed with three shirts on, under four blankets, stocking cap on head. Just freezing. Starting having vivid weird dreams. Really thought I was going to die. Wife avoided me like I had the plague, then she got it, and everybody I know got it.
One end or both ends, either it was bad.
In retrospect, it was dehydration. It took a day or two to recover.
Yeah, it went around.
Hope you feel better.
