gt transeo 2.0 comfort bike vs trek 8.5 ds

Hello
I am Looking to buy a bike. I decided t go with hybrid and my options get just to two of those bikes. However I am new to bikes and I don't know which one is better. The trek is great brand that I know but I never heard of gt ( like I said I am new to bikes). Thy both have similar accessories but the price is $400 difference. Please help me to decide if GT is Great bike and go for it or just add the extra and Get the Trek
THank You

I don't know if GT is a great bike. They are owned by Dorel, which also owns Cannondale, Schwinn, and Mongoose. As far as I can tell, Cannondale is Dorel's flagship brand, GT is the mid range brand, Schwinn and Mongoose are more big box brands these days.

The Trek is more expensive in part because it is a better specified bike. Nothing against the GT, just on the specifications you would expect the Trek to cost more. I like the frame geometry of the Trek a little better too as its a fraction more relaxed.

Assuming your of at least average height and not short, then both bikes are fine with the Trek being a better specified bike.

Funny, these are the exact two bikes I looked at. I ended up ordering the GT Transeo 2.0. The savings was huge, I'm sure in part due to the GT being available at Performance and being on sale. Trek's appear to only be sold through small LBS's that have higher prices (selling at retail). Nothing wrong with that, and if I were a really serious bike guy, I probably would have gone with the Trek just to have that little bit extra. But for $400 in savings and the kind of riding I plan to do, I think the savings was worth it. And hey, one perk about Performance is that if I don't like the bike (it's due into the store in about one week) I can return it for something else. That seems crazy to me but it's their policy, not mine and the sales guy made sure to remind me of that. I plan to ride pavement and around town (lots of broken up sidewalks and potholes) and then some off road but not hard mountain biking. A "dual sport" hybrid seemed to be the perfect compromise for me. And I like front shocks anyway since I'm not a dedicated road racer. Anyway, I'll post my review after having the bike for a week or two but right now I'm feeling pretty excited.

And just one other side note, I think it's good for more casual or "fitness" riders like myself not to get too caught up in bike specs. There's a million and one models out there. I did an awful lot of looking and test riding. In the end, I decided a bike with good (not great) specs should be sufficient for me. If I get into one form of biking (i.e., mountain biking or road racing) then I'll probably look for a dedicated bike platform but for now this should suit me quite well.
