Cane Creek Thudbuster Setback
I'd like to use the long travel Thudbuster on a road bicycle, in NYC, because the streets are that bad. By how many cm should I reduce my normal frame size, so that the seat remains in about the same place relative to the pedals? The seatpost has 2 to 2.25 inches of setback, with me on it (that's 1" of setback, plus an additional inch caused by the give of the suspension).
height 5' 11.5"
inseam 31.75" (80.65) (edit: I just measured 84.8cm, using the "book-against-the-wall method"... wow, that translates to a taller bicycle, which I find less comfortable.)
I tilt the saddle up a couple of degrees, and sit towards the back of the saddle
Thudbuster with a 52cm frame 1999 Specialized Allez Comp - BikePedia, and the seat slid all the way forward, I was too far back. So it would have to be less than 52cm.

Bike Geometry, Sizing and Fit - Cervélo
I see that with the smaller frames, most manufacturers change the seat tube angle, which would bring me forward despite having a really tall seatpost.

a quick measure, top of the shaft of the post/ bottom of the mech of the thudbuster (bushing pivots) ,
to saddle rails LT its 6 " ST it's 4" ..
If you can find a USE suspension post (UK made) they are a spring and elastomer plunger post,
a variety of internal parts adjust for rider weight .
Had a German 'Air Wings' seatpost (OEM part chosen by Koga) it is Zero setback
I wanted More setback and got the ST , got the LT with my Bike Friday Pocket Llama.
A frame with more top tube slope will have a shorter seat tube,
this makes learning the top tube length ratio for the size, more Important.

Why I don't want a telescoping suspension seatpost:
