Why riders when race is ride smaller frame than the height. Example marco pantani is was 5'8"and the bike is was 52cm. My height is 5'7" and online carculator give me 56cm road bike.

You seem to have invented a rule that the rider's height in whole feet is supposed to look like the bike seat tube in whole decimeters, and that the residual inches of the rider's height is supposed to look like the seat tube's residual centimeters?

It isn't a valid rule, so don't wonder why someone's bike doesn't match it.

There is something to it, though- many racers used undersized frames, presumably because they were lighter.

Head tubes have gotten taller on many compact designs. So if you use a lot of handlebar drop (most pro's do) then you need a smaller size frame to get a stack height you can work with.

Note watching the races The only time they are not bent over low, is when they zip up the team Jersey for the sponsors Logos

to be displayed at the finish line ... & Maybe to put on their rain Jacket.

Hard to get Mr. Pantani's Input on this topic , Now.

It's not real simple. One good one is that saddle height pedal to saddle top is 1.09 times your cycling inseam measured in stocking feet. It has nothing to do with height, and actually does not determine frame size.

There is a lot of crap on the internet. Take it with a grain of salt. A pretty good guide is the book by Greg LeMond, which you can find used on Ebay most likely. Folks will say it's all dated, but honestly the human animal has not changed and either have the basic tasks of riding a bicycle. You need a solid starting point. LeMond gave us one of the better ones.

First off I doubt Pantani was 5'8". He was a pretty tiny man and if anything his frame looked a little large for him to my eye, though with the old school geometry a fistful of seat post showing with a long top tube to get low was the norm.

Secondly it doesn't matter what he rode, it doesn't pertain to you at all. Even if you were both identical in height, different ratios of leg length to torso can radically alter the optimal frame size for two individuals.
