Need Help with New crankset
I am rebuilding the bottom bracket and cranset on my old Trek 830, 7x3 speed. Original parts were Shimano Hyperdrive-C crank (FC-M290) 42/34/24T /175mm and Shimano LP-25 bottom bracket (110mm spindle length).
So far, I have ordered a Shimano UN-55 (110mm) bottom bracket that seems to match the existing set-up. The problem I am having is finding a compatible (Shimano) chainwheel/crank set that fits the 110mm bottom bracket shaft. Spoke with Shimnao tech. support to no avail. They suggested the M371 or M361, neither of which appear to fit. This is a basic bike and budget is limited. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Nearly bought a replacement (used) M290 overpriced on Ebay then discovered this part was actually deemed defective and recalled by Shimano about 15 years ago!! Thanks.

Cranks are expensive and Bottom brackets are not.
You should have picked your crank and then picked a BB to match. I think 110 is a little narrow for many triples.

Thanks, but did not realize there would be a problem matching up to original set-up.
Plus my (limited) understanding is that changing the BB to longer shaft will most like like result in need to change rest of gear change system in order to get correct chain line.
Worst case I will live with old chainwheel set-up on new BB, but would prefer to replace if practical.

Or, since BB's are so cheap (and they are) buy a crankset that you like and use the bottom bracket recommended for it. It might even come as part of the package if you are lucky. Sell the unused one, or not. Were but that all life lessons were this inexpensive.
