Do they make pedals that are longer/wider than the standard one that come on a bike? I just got a Jamis Coda Sport and I really like. Except I feel that my foot is arching over the sides of the pedals making my legs bow out a bit (full disclosure I am a big girl). I asked the guy at the LBS where I got the bike and he said no, but maybe I didn't frame the question right. I ride with sneakers, not bike shoes with clips. And I think my wide foot coupled with wide hips is the issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

enough for some some people just used as platform pedals.

Basically they are not designed for that purpose. MTB pedals are.
The best platform pedals are MTB pedals, you have lots of choices.

Yes, search for platform pedals, which are wider than typical pedals (i.e. cage pedals). They're available in plastic or aluminum bodies, usually have little gripping studs on them (which is good), come in a variety of colors and styles (also good), all of them work, they're easy to install, and can be had for whatever you want to pay between $20 to $200.

Not to disagree, Chaadster, but what are cage pedals? I know about rattrap pedals, which are double sided and work well with or without toe clips (the ones that look like cages) and as a design extend back about 100 years, and about quill pedals, which are one sided, have one side that looks like one side of a rattrap sort of, and really don't work consistently without toe clips. Then there are touring and track platforms (not sure the difference is well-defined), intended for toe clips and are useless without their clips and straps. Some of these are IMO supremely comfortable: Lyotard Berthet, Campagnolo C-record and Chorus, and the MKS platforms.

Can you tell I still live in the era of toe clips and straps?

But really, I just want to know what your idea is with that term.

Callie, i have seen different size pedals out there, niot exactly sure the brand though...keep looking and look at a different LBS and the web. Call places like Performance bike, REI or other bike online shopping places...

I have found that Pricepoint.com has a wide variety of platform pedals, and good pricing. When you get in to their website search under pedals, and then the sub-category of Mountain.

Your question is well taken, and honestly, the term 'cage pedal' is properly a quill pedal, though it may be double sided. Rat trap, to my mind, refers to metal cage pedals with a sawtooth edge profile, primarily BMX format, which is why I didn't use it.

BMX pedals are probably what you want as they are wide and long for stability. I have a pair of really cheap 14.99 ones for my fat bike but you can get nicer ones at any price point.

Ergon's pedals are Nice , I've got a Pair .. I ride in regular shoes..
